About this location
The Graubunden region
Situated in the beautiful Graubunden 'lakes and mountains' region of Eastern Switzerland, charming and historic Arosa is 150km by road from Zurich International Airport, via Chur, the oldest City in Switzerland, up to the end of the stunning Schannfig Valley at 1800m altitude.
Unitl 1914 Arosa was only accessible by stagecoach. The arduous trip from Chur to Arosa lasted six hours.
There are many planned celebrations this winter for the 100 year Jubilee of rail linking Chur to Arosa this winter.
Arosa today benefits from hourly train arrivals from Zurich Airport. The most popular mode of travel to Arosa is via the exclusive Swiss Rail travel. It is an easy two hours fifty six minutes ride (Intercity followed by the modern Arosa Express) and we meet and greet our guests at the newly renovated Arosa Train Station.
Located a few steps from the free resort bus only a few minutes from ski lifts & town, there is also a choice of attractive walking paths to town, and trails through forests and mountains, all well kept and groomed in winter, making for stunning Marathon Run training.
Arosa is not just about winter skiing. It is a vibrant mountain town small enough to render a car unnecessary. It is set amongst mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, wildlife, nightlife, shops, sport facilities, restaurants, coffee shops, tea rooms and bars. It is very well suited to family skiing and activities, such as horse and sleigh rides, tobogganing, bum boarding, walking and running on incredible perfectly snow groomed nature trails, cross country skiing, snoe shoeing, ski dooing. Together with the expansive accessible off-piste & world class 'park', it is beginner, intermediate and expert skier, and snowboarder, paradise.

A lovely large chalet in a beautiful resort. The self-catering option was good for us, having several small children/babies. Buses were rather infrequent in low season, but it is not too far to walk into town (~15 mins with small children), to the skating rink, a swimming pool etc. The chalet is well equipped, particularly for young children with lots of toys, books and games provided, and the owners were kind enough to send a forgotten teddy home to us. The CHF100 parking fee seemed a bit unnecessary, but otherwise the price was fair.

"Comfortable, relaxed thoughtful care for three generations of family and friends."
Our second stay at spacious and very comfortable Chalet Runca . The needs of everyone were superbly catered for in a party with ages ranging from 10 months to 69 years. Meals were delicious and plentiful. Skis, boots, helmets and sledges available on site and close proximity to the ski bus enormously eased the task of introducing 4 year old twins to the, free for children, Ski school. The sauna and steam room cured any muscle aches on return from the slopes. The additional help and kindness from Helen and Mike, freely offered and given, whether to collect delayed luggage, catch early trains or even to find a lost night time tobogganist contributed to a very happy holiday for us all.
Many thanks for taking time to write a complimentary review for us, it brought back some fun memories! We certainly hope to help you celebrate a certain 70th Birthday next January. Have a great Summer, Helen & Mike.
