This beautiful old farmhouse dates back to the 16th Century. It is a spacious and well appointed, comfortable cottage. It is steeped with period character and charm with large old oak beams and thick stone walls. It can sleep up to six people (with three bedrooms: one large double and two twins) and has three ground floor reception rooms: kitchen; dining; and sitting rooms. Upstairs there is a large newly appointed family bathroom and a small WC on the ground floor. Free WiFi available. Truly stunning open rural country views and on a clear day The Lake District hills can be clearly seen. There is a small private courtyard area to the back which is a real sun trap and to the front open fields and a garden area. Private off-street parking is also located to the front of the property. Bike storage available. Very handy location for the Lake District, Morecambe Bay, Yorkshire Dale. Leighton Moss RSPB Bird Reserve only 2 miles away. Brackenthwaite a special place, nestled within the heart of the idyllic and picturesque Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). We are surrounded by fields and woodland, situated outside the historic village of Yealand Redmayne and towards the coastal village of Arnside. On clear days there are beautiful views of the Lakeland hills, Arnside Knott and Farleton Fell.

The area is a real hidden gem, often over looked for the busier Lake District. It is a haven for walkers, with over 200 public footpaths in just 75 square kilometers. Bird and nature lovers will also not be disappointed, with Leighton Moss RSPB bird reserve and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve on our doorstep.

Brackenthwaite is situated directly on the south Cumbria and north Lancashire county borders, mid way between Kendal and Lancaster. The coast is only three miles away at both Arnside and Silverdale. From our doorstep there are wonderful opportunities for both walking and cycling. We are located on the National Cycle Network and there are opportunities for off-road mountain biking. Fishing, horse riding and golf are also near by.

Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve (which was originally part of Brackenthwaite Farm) are within two miles.

The area has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) due, in part, to the large areas of limestone pavement, limestone walls, local historic lime kilns and diverse flora and fauna.

In addition to the immediate attractions, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, the Forest of Bowland AONB and Morecambe Bay are all easily accessible.

There are several places to eat out in the immediate area and the nearest pubs are two miles away at Beetham and Hale.

Leisure facilities (including pool, steam room, gym, children's soft play area and restaurant/bar) are available within 1.5 miles.
