VERY UNIQUE LOCATION!! Directly across from the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Roman Coliseum of Arles the house offers close-up views. Charm & intimacy await you in this stylish & beautiful village house offering Provencal elegance at its best. A very romantic and central "old town" location. Walk to everything. The origins of this lovely townhouse date from Roman times with the entire house completed in the 14th century! The house has been recently renovated in 2013 and decorated with an eye to charm and authenticity using Provencal colors, antiques and modern amenities.

The living room/dining room is on the ground floor with exposed stone walls, high ceilings, French doors, and the original stone floor. A comfortable sofa opens to a queen bed. There is a dining table and seating for 6.

The full modern American style kitchen has just been installed in what was the cellar with its vaulted ceiling. A true delight for those you love to cook or hire a chef and he'll do the cooking for you (we can recommend a few in the area).

From the entry level, stone steps lead upstairs to the second and third floors with two master bedrooms. Each has a queen bed, large windows, and open bath area with new, large claw-foot bathtubs, sink and separate, enclosed toilet. From these windows there is a striking view of the arena across. Both bedrooms have exposed beams, antique tile floors, stone walls, and elegant Signoria bed linens.

There is air conditioning throughout which makes this house especially pleasant in summer months. This is a beautiful and romantic house, cosy, quiet and peaceful.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

Arles, located within the 2013 European Cultural capital region Provence/Bouches-de-Rhône is at the mouth of the Rhône River. Gentle rolling hills extend for miles over the countryside fragrant with wild herbs, scrub brush and pine forests. Remnants of Roman aqueducts dot the countryside.

Underway, The Parc des Ateliers project a significant milestone with the signing of building permits on July 9, 2013 filed by the LUMA Foundation, the Mayor of Arles Hervé Schiavetti to Maja Hoffmann, President of the Foundation.

All designed by the world renowned American architect, Frank Gehry, with notably the 56 m Tower, as well as projects for the rehabilitation of existing buildings by the architect Annabelle Selldorf and the garden of the landscape Bas Smets are part of the signed permit.

This is another breathtakingly beautiful countryside in Provence. There is a striking little mountain range called Les Alpilles. It is said the tortuous shapes of its rocks inspired Dante as he wrote The Inferno. Our house is in and around the villages just to the north and south of this pretty mountain range.

To the south of Les Alpilles the region eventually extends to the sea. As you continue towards the Mediterranean, the land flattens, and you enter the Camargue, a large open marshland that ends at broad sandy beaches. This is another beautiful landscape.

Food & Wine Markets along with great culinary experiences:

One of the most famous restaurants in Provence is located in the Bouches-du-Rhône. The Oustau de Baumaniare at the foot of Les Baux and in many of the little villages all around offer an excellent selection of restaurants to chose from. This area also has some very well known wines. Just below Les Baux are several famous vineyards to visit. And this area is famous for its olives. Cold pressed olive oil is a speciality locally. Here, too, most of the villages have an outdoor market on a designated day of the week. The market at St. Rémy is particularly well-known, however, even the smaller ones like at Fontvieille or Maussane are worth a visit. Arles has celebrated Michelin rated restaurants one of the most notable is Jean-Luc Rabenel's Atelier. This wonderful chef also offers cooking classes at his nearby school and other establishments just steps away.

Towns, Villages & their Attractions:

This is an area filled with truly significant historical sights. St. Rémy has wonderful Roman ruins. Les Baux, a historic village perched at the top of the mountain is one of the most visited sites in France. The ancient Abbaye-de-Montmajour brings to mind a time when monks gathered herbs to prepare their special liqueur - which you can still purchase. A visit to the mill outside Fontvieille where Alphonse Daudet lived while he wrote his famous Lettres de Mon Moulin brings the past back to life. It's a short drive to Arles, a beautiful city with its fully intact Roman amphitheater and its elegant pedestrian-only center. You can walk these streets and follow in the footsteps of Van Gogh, who lived here and captured the countryside with his dramatic imagery and use of color.

The Camargue is known for its wild roaming horses, traditionally dressed cowboys and bullfighting. While in some towns, like Beaucaire, you can see traditional Spanish style bullfights. Many of the villages, however, have arenas for the French variety of bullfights, a gentler sport than its Spanish cousin. Over the course of the fight the chasseur, or bullfighter, attempts to grab a rosette tied between its rival's horns. The bull isn't killed here. Naturally the audience is ablaze with energy. The bullfights take place during the summer months and travel from village to village, fans in tow.

"a delightful stay"

In the center of Arles, steps away from the arena it is a lovely place to stay. From opening the shutters in the morning to listen to Arles waking up, to retreating to the comfortable sitting room in the evening to watch Arles wind down, the location is perfect to explore Arles and the surrounding areas.

Thank you for this very pleasant review.

"Romantic ambience and amazing location"

We truly enjoyed our 4 night stay here in the heart of Arles. The location is unbeatable and the best part was the townhouse itself. Handsome architecture and beautifully furnished and decorated. The only improvement would be a better orientation from the housekeeper about the wifi, and gas stove.

Thank you, it was a pleasure having you as our guests.
