Watermill | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
The Mill House is a traditional three-storey miller's home dating from the 19th Century. It adjoins a watermill, itself dating from at least the 11th Century, situated on the beautiful River Argenton which runs through charming countryside on the edge of the Anjou wine-growing area. The tranquil setting offers a relaxing family holiday with opportunities to explore many places of interest (the Loire Valley and its chateaux, the Vendee coast and Green Venice are all reached within the hour).
As well as providing a rowing boat to explore the river, the owners have produced a booklet of information which suggests days out, offers wine-tasting visits to regional vineyards (Layon, Anjou, Saumur, Muscadet) and gives information about historic aspects of the immediate locality.
The Mill House has traditional features such as oak staircases, beams, shutters and casement windows.
The ground floor consists of a living room with comfortable seating around a stone fireplace housing a wood-burning stove. Antique furniture provides ample cupboard-space and there is a well-equipped kitchen area and small cloakroom.
On the first floor is a double-bedroom with two windows, a landing (often used as a study area) and a shower room with two wash-hand basins and WC.
The second floor contains a large attic bedroom with plenty of hanging-space for clothes, double and two single beds and a wash-hand basin.
A third bedroom-sitting room is available if desired. It enjoys a stunning view of the river and several small islands. French windows open on to a private balcony overlooking the river. This room has a wood-burner, double bed and comfortable seating. A supplementary charge of 33 per cent is applicable.
Electric radiators throughout.
