Home description
This recently-refurbished villa is now available for holidays in this lovely and sunny part of France. With modern and comfortable air-conditioned accommodation for 8 people, it's own pool and a large Jacuzzi spa, it offers a very relaxing location for family or group holidays.
Situated a short walk from the centre of a pretty and peaceful traditional French village, and just a few minutes drive from sandy Mediterranean beaches, this villa will appeal to lovers of nature, walking, cycling, swimming, scuba diving, horseriding, golf, or to anyone who just needs a well-earned rest!. It is only 15 minutes from the beaches and rocky coves of the Vermillion coast, about 30 minutes south of the regional capital of Perpignan, and a short drive from the Costa Brava in Spain.
The historic and picturesque medieval towns of Ceret and Collioure are very close and must be visited for their abundant fiestas and markets. The historic Cathar castles are not far away, in fact many local villages bear traces of medieval history. St Genis des Fontaines church has a Roman fresco dating from the 13th c.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Apart from its excellent climate (300 days of sunshine a year), the area boasts a wide range of attractions including the lively resort of Argèles, the pretty medieval fishing port of Collioure and the charming and historic artists' village of Ceret.
The regional capital of Perpignan, 34km, is bursting with historic sites including the Palace of the Kings of Mallorca, plus many intriguing museums, local shops and markets. The African Wildlife Reserve at Sigean, north of Perpignan, contains as much big game as you could wish for. If shopping is your thing then you can easily drive up into the high Pyrénées and shop in tax-free Andorra.
If you prefer hiking or biking, then the local hills provide many interesting trails. The GR10 coast-to-coast footpath crosses the head of the Vallee Heureuse just a few Km away. For the more energetic it is even possible to walk over the hills into Spain, have lunch, and walk back again!. The area is famous for its therapeutic Spas, as the names of several local villages such as Thermes du Boulou and Amélie Les Bains attest.
Argeles / Sorede area
Sorède itself is a small traditional village with origins dating back to 981AD, but has several tourist attractions, including a Valley of Tortoises, a train museum, the Castle of Ultrera and a unique whip-making factory!. An open-air cinema in summer, boules competitions and many other lively events are organized by the local Mairie. Horse-riding, bike rental, windsurfing, water-skiing, a water park and and paragliding are available at Argèles, and the nearest Golf Course is at St-Cyprien just 20km away.
How to get there
By Car... From Perpignan, take the Autoroute A9 south towards Barcelona. Exit at Le Boulou and follow signs to Argeles-sur-Mer. After about 10km (Palau del Vidre/St Andre exit) turn right towards Sorède, you will find the village after about 2km. Exact details will be given with final booking confirmation.
By Train/Bus... You can take Eurostar from Waterloo and be sitting in the centre of Perpignan, aperitif in hand, some 12 hours later! Eurostar connects with the efficient TGV via Lille or Paris and you can sit back and relax while the gorgeous French coutryside rolls by. Trains run to Argeles-sur-Mer and from there either buses or taxis will take you to Sorede.
By Plane... Daily flights to Perpignan from Stansted (Ryanair) or Flybe from Southampton in summer. Ryanair also fly to Girona in Spain (1-1/2 hrs drive to Sorède. Toulouse, Carcassonne and Montpellier airports are all within 2 - 2 1/2 hours drive.
Most major car hire firms are represented at these airports, we find National at Perpignan to be fairly reasonable (Novacarhire on the web). Door-to-door transfers from the airport can be arranged if required.
