Home description
Our property, located near Perpignan on France's Mediterranean coast, is a modern, recently refurbished apartment offering comfortable self-catered accommodation for up to 4 guests in 1 bedroom and 1 sofa bed.
Since acquiring ownership of this property in the autumn of 2004, we have completely refurbished the interior, installing a brand new bathroom and kitchen in the spring of 2005. Among the property's attractions is a west-facing balcony with sun from 1pm until sunset every day - perfect for eating al fresco or just relaxing with a good book.
There is plenty to do in the area around the apartment, with a pine wood and a 7km beach both within 2 minutes' walking distance. This property is a perfect base from which to explore some of France's premier tourist attractions, from the high Pyrenees to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean coast.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
From the beach to the mountain, you'll be spoilt for choice throughout the year: from outdoor activities to adrenaline-boosting sports and... funfairs. If the town always provides traditional activities such as the pleasures of the sea or walking (individually or with a group), it can also offer more unusual and challenging activities... including the thrill of canyoning (Canyoning Park) and acrobatic forest excursion (Argelès Aventure).
Argeles / Argeles sur Mer area
Argelès-sur-Mer (pronounced `Ar-jel-ess') is located on the southern Mediterranean coast of France, 40 minutes drive from Perpignan airport and about half an hour from the Spanish border. As a holiday base it offers access to varied coastal scenery, including glorious sandy beaches, as well as dramatic mountain terrain, with the high Pyrenees only an hour away.
The area has been a favoured holiday destination for the French for many years, and its proximity to Spain gives it a strong 'Catalan' identity.
Apart from its historic associations the area offers a myriad of modern sports and leisure activities including cycling, canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding, windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving, sea fishing, and tennis (there are courts next to the apartment). The nearby hills offer excellent opportunities for walking and hiking, while the Pyrenees with their spectacular scenery and top ski resorts are just an hour away, making the area a superb destination in winter as well as summer. If you're looking for a more relaxing holiday experience, the outdoor thermal baths at St Thomas les Bains are definitely worth a visit.
The old town of Argelès Village is a kilometre inland, and has narrow, cobbled streets and a lively street market selling local produce twice a week (see photo in picture gallery). Argelès Plage, next to the beach, is a more recent development geared to the tourist trade, with a wide selection of restaurants, shops, hotels and self-catering apartments. Nearby Argelès-Port offers a safe harbour for yachts with daily boat trips to historic Collioure and nearby Spanish resorts on the Costa Brava.
For the holidaymaker prepared to travel from Argelès as a base, there are many fascinating visits that are close enough for a day trip. These include the medieval walled city of Carcassonne, the Salvador Dali museum in Figueres, northern Spain, the massive peak of Canigou (2784m), and many other attractions. A longer journey, but still possible as a day trip, will take the determined traveller to the principality of Andorra, a skiing centre in winter and a popular destination for duty-free shopping.
How to get there
Visitors to Argeles can fly Ryanair or Flybe to Perpignan, or take one of the many budget carriers from UK regional airports to Gerona airport in northern Spain (one hour away) or the major international airport at Barcelona (just two hours drive).
From Perpignan airport there is a regular bus service to Perpignan train station with trains to Argeles Village.
