You are welcomed in Arras en Lavedan at Blue Cairn Lodge. An authentic mountain village in the heart of the Hautes Pyrénées, you will understand why this valley was also named the 'Eden of the Pyrenees'! The entire property available for rental at all holiday periods includes this smaller charming "bigourdane" gîte and superbe large house on beautiful grounds of 3000m . A picture postcard is revealed from every window. South-facing, you will enjoy long sunlight hours, from dawn to dusk, and will profit all the more from your private garden where you can sit and eat out, relax or play. This idyllic setting is in the calm and tranquility of what was, until very recently, a convent! We have re-converted this building with the main concerns being authenticity and comfort. The generous rooms have been decorated and furnished with quality furniture and this gives a 'cosy yet elegant' ambience. The kitchens in both houses are independant and fully equipped. The village, 2 mins by foot, offers a boulangerie (bread shop), post office and 2 café/restaurants. All other services you may need are 5 mins by car in 'Argeles Gazost'

Blue Cairn Lodge is a "Gite de France"

In order to give you an idea of the numerous possibilities of visits in surrounding area, we have compiled a day to day programme which may inspire your holiday here, including many of the 'not-to-be-missed'!!

Day 1: Local walk: Arras en Lavedan is a village artists; pottery, sculptures, glass-makers aswell as occasional exhibitions. Lunch on the terrace of the local restaurant and climb the 'Mont de Gez' in the afternoon for surprising panormic views!

Day 2: Visit the fascinating 'Musée des Montagnards' at Aucun on your way to the Estaing Lake (15 mins by car), ideal for a dip and picnic in ideal setting. Have a wander or a hike above the lake and on your way back, go over the 'Col des Bordères' and up to the Col de Soulor, legendary pass from the Tour de France. Learn a little about local birds of prey on a short walk with illustrated descriptions and possibly see the Real Thing while you're there! The huge Lamergeyer, Griffon and Egyptian vulture as well as eagle live nearby!

Day 3: Take the car to Gavarnie (50 mins). Enjoy this Unesco World Heritage site of incomparable beauty. Walk or take a donkey in about 1 hour to the 'cirque' (amphitheatre) where the highest waterfall in Europe awaits you! 420m ! Or take a more 'off-the-beaten-track' path to climb up for fabulous views on the vertiginous walls of the cirque and the famous Brèche de Roland. Victor Hugo was left speechless!

Day 4: Morning in large and lively, colourful and authentic market at Argeles Gazost to see, taste and buy local products. Picnic with your purchases at Hautacam (20 mins by car). This 'high place' offers exceptional views and walks ranging from 5 mins to 5 hours.... a quick dip in Isaby lake or the walk on the high ridges and see, in the distance, the Brèche de Roland!

Day 5: In the morning, play with the marmots and feed the otters in Argeles Animal Park. See other Pyrenean animals such as bear, lynx, wolf....picnic by nearby river and go to the Parc Accrobranche for more fun!

Day 6: Day out in Cauterets (20 mins by car) and Pont d'Espagne. Numerous hiking possibilities; 10 mins to have a beer or coffee at foot of the waterfall; 20 mins to the famous 'Lac de Gaube' (using chairlift); 3 hours to Marcadau refuge; 2h30 to Oulettes refuge and the north face of the Vignemale and its glaciers. End your day at the relaxing and luxurious thermal baths in Cauterets for a well-earned rest!

Day 7: Cultural visit to Lourdes or final hike in Troumouse cirque, Barrèges valley and the Neouvielle natural reserve..or a mountain-bike ride out from your gite or paraglide over the valley to say goodbye! Or raft, canyon, bungy jump for that final adrenaline rush...or go on the chairlift to the famous Pic du Midi observatory at 2800m via the great Col de Tourmalet to reach the heights! "Amazing time with my family during Christmas time"

We spent one week with my family ( 9 adults and 4 kids ) in this house for Christmas. It was exactly what we .re looking : quiet area in the mountain, amazing view from.the house, enought space for the all family, it.s a little paradise. We did ski in Cauteret, walk , many places to visit around. There is a playgroung with tennis court so close from the house, we had amazing time. My little boy was asking every morning to go out to see the chicken and pick up the eggs ! Thanks you so much Mandy and Sacha ! Very nice owner, I recommand this place
