Offering a relaxing holiday enjoying a part of the Lake Como which has not been built or spoilt by tourism and is still part of the lakes as a traditional holiday. Great for using the lake and for swimming in the lido, the villa offers close access to the 12 lovely restaurants and local bars within Argegno and only 5 steps from a best bakery within the whole Como district, where fresh bread cakes and cheese are made on the premises. Just down a small alleyway, is the greengrocer who has all organic produce and towards the lake is a general provision store. Just a few steps away, is the ferry which will take you all parts of the lake. From the Casa Gabriella guests can reach the lakeside centre of Argegno in just 1 minutes by walking The popular visitor town offers many picturesque views from the gushing mountain river and ancient bridge crossings to the vibrant piazzas with cafes, bars and restaurants which lead to quieter and charming medieval passageways and areas of the town which are just waiting to be explored! Argegno offers a range of local amenities and offers some very good restaurants to enjoy including La Piazzetta.

From the town, guests can also easily travel by car, ferry or bus to explore nearby towns and also enjoy other marvellous dining experiences at Il Crotto Platani we have tried this in 2013 and the food was wonderful, with exemplary service as well as Gatto Nero. Staying in Argegno also means that guests are within easy reach of the cosmopolitan delights of Como city which include the famous Duomo cathedral, its buzzing Piazzas, the wide variety of designer and high street shopping boulevards and the splendid Villa Olmo.

Other Activities: Flat green bowling, spa, gymnasium, squash, game zone, children's mini club

Golf: There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Cadenabbia & Menaggio Golf Club celebrating 100 years this year and is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min by car. Tel: +39 344 321 03. Green fees: Weekdays €55, weekends and holidays €70; golf cart rent €36.

Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).

Ski: This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibility and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.

There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.

There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.

The closest major ski resort is Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass, which is approx. 1 hr 20 min by car

White washed throughout, this year in July, the property is maintained in a high condition as we use it personally when it is not let out. the Natural wood from the 17th century beams and shelving is allowed to be exposed, as is the old inglelnook fireplace in which you can set next to the wood burning stove. A brand new central heating and hot water system has been installed in March 2012, as well giving you piping hot water without the use of expensive storage cylinders. The green shutters ensure it is cosy and well protected and there is ample storage for coats hats and boots for those winter walks in the Alps and going up to the glaciers when the weather is colder.

we offer washing facilities through the management family who look after the villa for you, and this is payable locally at reduced rates, but offers the guests the chance to go back with a completely washed and ironed suitcase

in summer you can let all the windows open and let the gorgeous smelling breeze just waft over you as you sit on the upstairs terrace or next to the kitchen as you watch the world go by.

The Lake Como region

Besides being the most famous of the Italian lakes, Lake Como is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It has absolutely stunning views of the surrounding majestic mountains with their deep valleys running through them. The clear lake water is mesmerizing and varies in colour from light green to dark green/blue. On the rare occasion when the lake is still, it mirrors the magnificent scenery that surrounds it.

The towns and villages along the lakes shores are very picturesque and each one of them feels like it could be home to any number of celebrities. In summer you will find villages inundated with tourists from all around the world. However you will notice that certain areas of the lake attract different nationalities. During the summer months and especially at the weekends, many of the lakeside lidos (beach areas) are full to capacity with holidaymakers as well as local residents. The Milanese tend to come to the lake for their weekend break as well as to escape the smothering city heat.

In the winter months the lake is much quieter although you will still see and hear the odd tourist ambling around. Lake Como is never completely tourist free as even during the winter the lake attracts visitors with its stunning snow-capped mountains and clear crisp winter days with blue skies.

Argegno

Argegno is a lovely little village on the west side of the lake and is situated on the Regina road at the start of Val d’Intelvi with the river Telo flowing through it. It is approximately 20km from Como. This small village is popular with tourists and is always very busy in the summer months. There are some interesting sights such as the Santa Anna Church which dates back to the 18th century. The interior of this church houses some original frescoes and furniture. Another church worth visiting is the Chiesa della Trinità. There is also a cable car from Argegno here that takes you up to Pigra (approx 800m) with amazing panormic views across the lake. You can also take a walking tour of Val d'Intelvi if you are feeling fit.
