Home description
Vale Do Mendo is located in a mountainous forrest region overlooking the Sierra de Estrela National Park mountain range. Set in over 1 acre of land, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with absolute stunning views. The villa sleeps 5-6 people, has 3 bedrooms, (2 x double rooms and 1 x single room) very large bathroom and an open plan living area. All rooms have been redecorated in Oct 09. Leading from the lounge is a large spacious balcony with fabulous views, furnished with table and chairs to enable you to dine alfresco on the terrace over looking the new salt water pool and enjoy a spot of star gazing with a glass of vinho in the evening. You will relax in this peaceful and tranquil setting.
As stated set in over 1 acre of land, including many terraces (see if you can find the hidden garden??) with olive, lemon, orange, apple and fig trees. There is plenty of space on the pool terrace for your sun lounger to enjoy the stunning views or just relax and soak up the sun. If visiting on winter days snuggle up by the log fire, read a book or watch the English satellite TV or maybe watch one of the many DVD films provided.
It won't take you long to unwind in this beautiful place and there is plenty to do in this wonderful region, including; walking, hiking, golfing, horse riding, cycling, fishing and even skiing in the Estrela National Park in the winter, (we have had people skiing in the Estrela in the morning and sunbathing on the beach at Figueira da foz in the afternoon).
Visit the nearby traditional town of Arginal only a 15- 20 min drive away which has many quaint shops and restaurants, two supermarkets, ( Intermarche & Lidl, the Intermarche has a large fresh fish display great for BBQs) also banks with ATM machines and on Thursdays a large open air market (get there early its gone by 1pm) to buy your goodies for the BBQ. Barter for linens, clothes and other local treats, then sit on a bench in the main square and watch the tranquil local way of life pass you by, fantastic.
The Villa is situated just outside of Sarnadela village, the nearest other property is well over 300 yards away, and you are not overlooked from any direction. The small village has two bars and a minimarket. The minimarket is small but be amazed by how much they sell. The nearest small bar is a 10 min walk away.

The villa is situated in the countryside surrounded by forest and mountains. The area is full of picturesque villages clinging to the side of the mountains, particularly the village of Piadao approx 30 min drive. The Roman town of Coja is 25mins drive away and is well worth a visit to stroll through the narrow streets and have a coffee in a local bar.
Spend a day in Coimbra the old capital of Portugal with its history and culture; visit the old town with its quaint alleyways and shops. There are many churches that are also worth visiting. Coimbra also boasts the largest Botanical Garden in the country, which covers 20 hectares.
To the south of Coimbra is the town of Condeixa-a-Nova with its 17th to 19th Century palaces and manor homes. Just south of here are the Roman ruins of Conimbriga, the largest unearthed archaeological find of its kind in Portugal.
The beaches of Figueira de Foz are well worth a visit.
The climate is temperate with temperatures reaching 90+c in the summer months Winters are mild with sunny days.

Guestbook for Vale Do Mendo
My partner and I visited Vale Do Mendo during Oct, drank our wine outside in the sunshine during the day and inside by the log fire at night. The peace and quite is lovely and the views are amazing, a well deserved treat. We would thoroughly recommend the villa. Katie 28, Bristol
We spent 2 weeks here during July the weather was glorious and we spent most days by the pool and cooking up a BBQ feast with our local produce that we bought from the market. Steve, Newcastle
