The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast/Central Portugal region
The Coimbra district of the Central Portugal region is a rural area with lots of beautiful scenery, wide flowing rivers, lakes and pretty villages in the mountains. The Romans were here and have left some historical monuments, bridges and aquaducts and the best roman remains conserved at Conimbriga approx. 15 mins drive south from Coimbra.
The Arganil area is central to Coimbra district and provides a great place to start your exporation of the area. There is fishing on the Rio Alva and in the man made lakes and reservoirs. River beaches are dotted along the the rivers of the area and make great places to cool off on a hot summers day!
Arganil is the main district town and has a selection of shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, chemists etc, there are also 2 large supermarkets as well as several smaller ones. There is an infants play park and a pretty designated walk zig zagging up the hill. During the summer months there is a free show in the town square on a Saturday evening and the large 5 day annual fair is held here at the beginning of September, usually around the 7th September.
