Guestbook

We spent a delightful week in Arezzo, exploring the city and taking day trips to Cortona and Orvieto. The apartment was spacious, attractive, and very comfortable--a real home away from home. The kitchen was stocked with basic provisions, which meant we didn't have to rush out to find an open grocery store. The location is great for walking anywhere in the centre and getting to the train station with ease. Thank you, Francesco and Silvia, for making us feel at home. We hope to stay at your apartment again!
-Nina and Barry, Troy, New York, USA (June 2007)

'Rhona and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Francesco's spacious, well-appointed apartment - formerly his home - in the historical centre of Arezzo. The apartment has many original features and is in an ancient tower overlooking the charming 13th century church of San Gemignano. From there, it proved easy to explore the town, as well as using local bus services to visit the many hilltop town and villages in the surrounding countryside. It is also possible to visit Siena easily by bus, and Perugia, Florence and Orvieto by train. Arezzo itself is lively, with much to see and do, and many sites to see. Far less busy than Siena, and all the better for it.'
Ross and Rhonda Saunders- July 2007

' In 20 years of travelling abroad and renting accommodation we have never had such as an impressive welcome as that given by Silvia and Francesco. We were advised that basic essentials would be available on our arrival but got so much more than that. The spacious apartment is bright, clean, and comfortable and had everything and more to meet our needs and was worth the steep climb up the stairs to get to it. It is also ideally situated to experience all the pleasures of the old town and beyond. Markets, shops and restaurants are all local and within easy walking distance. The old town is easy to explore and there are many historical features to view as you wander through the narrow streets. Using public transport to get out and about beyond Arezzo couldn't be easier. Whilst on holiday we watched the Sarancino which was an unforgettable experience and visited the monthly Antiques Market which is enormous and I can now see where it gets its reputation from. People need to remember however that Arezzo is a hill town and many of the streets are cobbled so it is not suitable for those who don't like or have difficulties walking. We would definitely recommend this apartment to our friends and would certainly consider returning in future. Finally thank you to Silvia and Francesco who were always available at the end of a phone for support and advice" " Julia and Steve Wilson.

My wife and I just spent 6 weeks in Francisco & Sylvia’s lovely apartment in Arezzo and we can recommend the experience to anyone interested in exploring this region of central Italy. Arezzo is a very ancient city and the apartment is located within the old city walls just a few minutes walk from the city’s many excellent restaurants and shops. The apartment is exactly as Francesco describes it, very modern and very well decorated. While we never had more than 3 people staying there at one time it would be comfortable for 4 adults and could accommodate an even larger family. I have to admit that my favourite feature was the tower in which the larger bedroom is located. It is by far the oldest room we’ve ever had the privilege to occupy and is likely to remain so for a very long time. Staying there is a rare opportunity to experience a real sense of history while enjoying the modern conveniences of the recently restored apartment.

For those not familiar with Arezzo, it is located in eastern Tuscany very close to the border with Umbria & Marche. This location, plus the proximity of main highway and rail lines, makes it an ideal place from which to explore central Italy.
This is the third time we’ve used Arezzo as our home away from home and this apartment is by far the most comfortable and convenient we’ve had the opportunity of occupying. We’ll look forward to repeating the experience again in the future.

We would recommend this listing to anyone looking for a true Tuscan
living experience. The charming apartment is in an ancient building
within the walled section of town, yet has all the modest comforts
needed for short or long term living. The train station, street
markets, trendy little shops, wonderful authentic restaurants and all
historical sites are within short walking distance. Looking out over
the tiled Etruscan rooftops of town, listening to the church bells
peal, and meandering the narrow ancient streets, buying fresh
vegetables and fruit at the markets, and pasta, olives, cheeses and
wines in little shops to bring back to cook in the apartment were some
of the highlights of our trip. It is well located for day trips to
Cortona, Siena, San Gimagnano, Florence, Perugia, and more. We had a
fantastic Christmas week in festive Arezzo!

"Dear Francesco, I enjoyed so much staying in your apartment in Arezzo: it is most convenient and perfectly located, it is exactly what one dreams about when imagining a vacation in a small town in Toscana: apartment in a very old yet comfortable building in the old town with a market in front, old churches and palaces all around, friendly neighbourhood, excellent espresso in numerous cafés (well, this is in the genes of Italians), beautiful countryside. I highly recommend your apartment and will love to return in the future. Best wishes and many thanks" - Nava (Switzerland), June 2008
