The Tuscany / Arezzo Province region

Tuscany is a beautiful area of Italy. Think of the vineyards and evocative files of dark green cypress trees, snaking sandy roads leading to rust-coloured farmhouses and moss-coated castles, and the characterful villages that can be found across the countryside.
Tuscany continues to enchant us, from the smallest hamlets in the heart of the countryside to the magnificent city of Florence with its breathtaking Duomo and great restaurants. There are so many things to enjoy in this region, and it is hard not to dream of moving to this gorgeous region with its sunny climate and good food.
The Arezzo area
Don't miss day-trips to important Art cities like Arezzo and Florence. Another suggestion is to go to Perugia direction and visit beautiful towns like Anghiari, Sansepolcro and Monterchi.
Arezzo is a city in Tuscany, Italy that was an important Etruscan town. It was known to the Romans as Arretium. Arezzo was made in the 11th cent. a free commune, siding with the Ghibellines. Arezzo is also famous for Guido d'Arezzo, the Medieval abbot who originated solfeggio (the mnemonic music system known to many from the song in The Sound of Music that starts "Do, a deer"). Nowadays, it is an agricultural trade centre and has machine, clothing, gold, and jewellery industries and is also a tourist centre.

Put yourself in the hands of an expert English speaking tour guide to visit, and of course taste, the most distinct vineyards in Tuscany. Explore the World of Tuscan Wine. Costa degli Etruschi wine trail
To go through a wine trail like the Etruscan's coast trail gives the opportunity to visit charming medieval villages, vineyards and olive groves immersed in an unspoilt hilly land not far away from "Blue Flag" beaches. "Cantine Aperte" means Open Cellars, this is the most important wine Festival in the whole Italy, when many wineries open their cellars to visit and tasting attracting many tourists and wine enthusiasts from the whole world.
Fattoria Il Palagio - Castel San Gimignano
Located in a privileged area between Volterra and San Gimignano, Il Palagio’s lands extend over Etruscan and Roman old settlements, actually the wine dates back from that time. With modern methods but preserving many of the ancient procedures, Il Palagio is able to produce top quality wines. The most important one, connected to the territory is the Vernaccia di San Gimignano D.O.C.G.
Casentino National Park - The largest National Park in Italy
Unspoiled lush woods, mountains, lake, rivers, waterfalls; knowledge, adventure and much fun are waiting for you. VIA CASSIA - From Tuscany to Rome by car
An idea that is really worthy and we surely recommend is to take a few days more to do this trip between Florence and Rome or between Siena and Rome (or vice-versa) by car, not with the highway but through an old Roman road - Via Cassia. At last, ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME.
Street markets and other fairs
Tuscany is rich of street markets and this is certainly a great choice to make shopping as well as get full immersion in the Tuscan experience: antiques, handcrafts, flowers, vegetables, clothes, souvenirs and much more is waiting for you along the streets of many Tuscan cities and villages.
SAGRA
"Sagra" is the Italian word for Food Festival. What can you expect to find when you go? Normally it is a group of locals in the Pro Loco (which means local promotional agency) who get together and prepare a menu with a theme. The money earned in these events is dedicated to buying things for the town folk or setting up parks and play area for the children.

Guestbook for La Casina
CARDWELL, Australia, POSTED:The owners of the villa were very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us when we had a request. The villa itself had such appeal, with its outlook over the valley, roomy kitchen and living area, lots of outdoor areas and being located in a quiet area with no close neighbours. All that we hoped for. We had lots of room inside and out. The bedrooms were charming and lounge room area was big enough to accommodate all of us. We made use of the many outside areas especially the verandas situated off the lounge room and kitchen. The position of the villa gave us wonderful views of the town of Poppi, especially in the early morning when there was fog in the valley. It looked like a picture from a fairytale with the medieval castle and the old part of Poppi above the mist. We used the outside cooking area a few times and it was lovely having an open fire place in the lounge room on the few cool nights we had. It was lots of fun going with Gigi to buy produce from the farm and gathering apples, mushrooms and figs. The cooking lesson with Linda was a highlight. We were amazed at her skill at preparing many dishes at once. The food was delicious and we learnt a lot and intend to put what we learnt into practice in Australia. We loved walking into town which we did a few times. The walk home looked a real challenge when we saw the villa from town, but it turned out to be good exercise and we enjoyed that too. The lifts to town by Gigi were much appreciated especially with all our luggage on the last day. Also, we appreciated the prompt way our water problem was fixed. In all, our visit to Villa Gigi surpassed our expectations and I will enthusiasticly recommend it. Stella, Gigi and Anna, you were so welcoming and friendly, that made our holiday so much better. We would love to come back, however the distance from Australia dictates that it may not be any time soon, but I have many friends who would have loved to have joined me in Italy and I will tell them about the villa. Thank you so much for the wonderful time. I fulfilled a dream.
Heidelberg, Canada, POSTED: Villa La casina was a fabulous experience, quiet and isolated yet only minutes away from restaurants and shopping in Poppi. Waking up at dawn to see the sunrise over the valley and the Poppi castle gave a stunning start to each day. The 10 of us had plenty of room and comfort in the villa, and the location provided a great base for exploring Tuscany. TIP for future guests: grocery stores are closed from Saturday evening to Monday morning (or afternoon!) so people who need groceries should shop before checking in.
Walton on Thames, England, POSTED: We were met by Stella in Poppi who took us up to the villa and showed us around. During our stay her father, Luigi, popped in to check on us and brought freshly baked pizza and foccacia. The villa was far more delightful and comfortable than our expectations. It is furnished with beautiful & interesting decor. The villa has so many indoor & outdoor areas to escape to with breathtaking vistas which kept everyone happy. It is at the end of a dirt road and so quiet that you cannot hear any noise from any properties at all. The stunning panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside with the view of Poppi castle in the distance will stay with us all for a long time. We had planned to do a few day trips from the villa but were so relaxed that we opted for time chilled out around the pool instead. The pool area was heaven. We did a day trip to Florence which was an easy drive. Poppi is a charming town & a visit in the evening to the bar/cafe next to the castle is a must as this is where all of the locals, from young to old, hang out. There are lots of restaurants in the area to try with something for everyone. We will definitely return to the Villa Gigi in the future and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends. Thank you Anna, Luigi & Stella for letting us use the Villa Gigi. We did not want to leave!
Yardley, USA, POSTED: We loved "Ristorante Lo Sperone di Strumi" right down the road. Don't miss the Poppi market on Tuesday morning. Arezzo's antique market is the first Sunday. It was a lovely town and market. This villa was very comfortable for 9. The kids loved the pool. The kitchen was well equipped. We could not get enough of the view. I felt like I was looking at a painting from every window. The view was even more spectacular than on the web!!
Sparta, USA, POSTED: Breathtaking views. Very quiet and relaxing. Nico was very accommodating and extremely quick to respond to any calls/requests we made. Mobile phone access was very good, but no internet access.(Has be resolved >> Tuscan Villas)
Livermore, USA, POSTED: It's a bit of a drive to get to the villa but once there the views and privacy are spectacular. The villa was well equipped and the pool area is especially nice. The owners, Anna and Luigi are very friendly and helpful and gave us good recommendations to restaurants. We loved Restaurant Lo Sperone Di Strumi 3K, and La Vita about 10K away. The castle in Poppi is wonderful and the zoo for the kids was a nice city break. The drive to Florence is beautiful. The house was nice and large for the 10 of us and we had a fantastic time and would love to come back someday.
