Home description

This recently renovated, converted farmhouse in warm, honey-coloured Tuscan stone and brick, stands in an elevated position overlooking the lawns of the pool terrace below and open fields and woodland dotted with Cypress trees beyond, with no other buildings in sight. It forms part of a small farm estate, with the owner's home and other outbuildings on site, set in peaceful seclusion among well-tended lawns and mature, shade-giving trees and surrounded by unspoilt countryside.

Each apartment in this restored annexe retains a traditional Tuscan simplicity of decor with typical whitewashed walls, wooden doors, shutters and furniture, travertino stone-tiled floors, and tiled ceilings with exposed wooden beams. All the new kitchen and bathroom units blend harmoniously in style and colour with this authentic look, yet incorporate the most up-to-date fittings and appliances to ensure the guests' maximum comfort. All apartments are centrally heated throughout. Three of them are situated downstairs at ground-level, one upstairs on the first floor.

The Tuscany region

Before you come to Tuscany, become Tuscan: cook truffles freshly found, cheer at the Palio as a riderless horse wins again, sip the new Brunello while you watch yet another beautiful sunset and don't forget to harvest the olives.

Arezzo / Lucignano area

The Val di Chiana is a some 100 Km long valley extending over an area 1832 Km². The valley stretches out to the north between the Arezzo valley and the Orvieto plains and includes the entire watershed of the Canale Maestro della Chiana (a large canal stretching across the valley), the main watercourse of the area originating from the Montepulciano Lake. The valley is bounded to the east by the pre-Apennine range featuring some of the tallest mountains of the area such as the Alta Sant’Egidio (1057 m), mount Lignano (837 m) and mount Corneta (744 m) and to the west by the Val d’Orcia.
The landscape is mainly characterised by gentle rolling hills with a long flat stretch right by the Canale Maestro. Average height is 450 mt. a.s.l.
The valley enjoys a typically peninsular and continental climate with warm summers and moderately cold winters; on clear days daytime temperature ranges are wide. Spring and Fall are typically mild and often characterised by high rainfall (especially between September and December). Snowfalls are quite rare; snow usually falls between December and January but only coats the valley for very few days.

Further details indoors:
The privileged elevated position of this farmhouse annexe, set on the crest of a gentle hillside, provides it with spectacular views over the open countryside encircling the estate. A little ornamental garden has been planted on the slope immediately in front, with wooden steps down to the lawns around the pool and to the gravel parking area, which is accessed through its own side entrance gates. Colourful geraniums, hydrangeas and lemon trees in large ceramic pots brighten the environment and mature native trees offer welcome shade. Apart from birdsong and the occasional crowing of the local cockerel, there is nothing to disturb the all-embracing silence of this idyllic retreat!

Wine, olive oil and organic fruit and vegetables are produced on this farm and the owners would be more than happy to show guests round to witness the production in progress at first hand. On request, guests may also sample and enjoy some of the typical culinary specialities of this region.
Le Cantine is near Lucignano which is a beautiful example of an early medieval town and boasts several restaurants, banks and shops. By car; Cortona is 15 minutes, 20 to Arezzo or Montepulciano; 45 to Siena and one hour to Florence. Although immersed in peace and quiet, the autostrada is just 15 minutes drive connecting you to all important tourist destinations and the rest of Europe.

Further details outdoors:
The area can offer: horseriding; bike riding; nature hikes; thermal spas; hot-air balloon flights; wine tours and tasting; fabulous dining; and a whole host of nearby locations of historic, artistic, architectural, culinary and scenic renown, such as: Montepulciano (home to the famous Vino Nobile red wine); Montalcino (home to the equally famous Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino red wines); Pienza (famed for its delicious "pecorino", sheep's milk cheese); Torrita di Siena; Sinalunga; Lucignano; Cortona;Arezzo (celebrated for Piero Della Francesca's 15 th century fresco-cycle of the "Legend Of The True Cross"); Lake Trasimeno; the Abbey/Monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore; the ancient Umbrian hilltop town of Perugia, as well as that of Assisi, most important of pilgrimage destinations, being the birthplace of St. Francis; and, of course, Siena (home to, among countless other things, the world-famous "Palio" horserace).
