The Tuscany region
Located in central Italy, Tuscany is known for its rich history, art, beautiful landscapes, delicious food, and superb wines. The beautiful cities of Florence and Siena contain some of Italy's most famous artistic treasures. Tuscany is also home to many scenic hill towns. Borgo Tozzetto is located in one such town. The town is Caprese Michelangelo. The birthplace of the famous Michael Angelo (painter of the SIstine Chapel). Take a day trip to Florence, Siena, Arezzo, or to the seaside near Rimini or discover the treasures of a nearby village or town. Relax by the pool, take a walk along a country lane with castles and hamlets in the distance, or visit one of the famous spas located in this diverse region.
Arezzo / Caprese Michelangelo area
The city of Arezzo is located in eastern Tuscany, between the cities of Florence and Siena. The city is in a valley where the valleys of the Casentino area, the higher Valdarno area, Val di Chiana and Val Tiberina intersect. "Arretium" as it was previously called was one of the most important and wealthy cities during the Etruscan reign and even today preserves some of the original defensive stone walls built around the city and numerous archeological areas. The Etruscans were and remain famous for their great ability in working with gold and thus it is no coincidence that Arezzo today is one of the major centres for jewellery and goldsmith craftsmanship in Italy. The city was presented to worldwide audiences in several scenes of Roberto Benigni's movie, Life in Beautiful, which won an Oscar in 1998 for Best Foreign Movie. Caprese Michelangelo is the name of this old village which honours the artist Michelangelo Buonarroti, its greatest citizen. Amid chestnut groves the village preserves its perimetral plan. The Casa del Podestà, where the artist was born, now houses the Museo Michelangiolesco which displays life-size copies of Michelangelo’s masterpieces and interesting works by the best contemporary sculptors.
