PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA & THE ITALIAN COURTS 2007 A 500 year celebration of his life & works The Upper Tiber Valley & Arezzo, 31 March – 22 July 2007 Piero della Francesca was born in the historical walled town of Sansepolcro in Eastern Tuscany where ‘The Resurrection’ and another three of his famous frescoes are on display in the Museo Civico. The trail continues to the nearby medieval town of Monterchi where ‘The Pregant Madonna’ is to be found; and on to Arezzo, an important Tuscan city of Etruscan origin & Roman significance. Here you will find his frescoes that adorn the Basilica di San Francesco and the Duomo of Arezzo.
A further collection of his paintings have been assembled for this celebration in the Museum of Medieval & Modern Art. They have been brought from other Italian cities together with the works of many of his contempories, on whom he had a significant influence and which give a vivid picture of life in the Renaissance courts in the 15th century. These works portray the culture, atmosphere, protagonists, exchanges and meetings of the period.
The Upper Tiber Valley was the boundary and also the meeting point of the Etruscan, Umbrian, Byzantine and Longobard civilizations. Piero della Francesca felt a very profound and intense tie to his land and in spite of his many travels he chose to leave some of his most celebrated works in this valley. The colours, rhythms, light and space of this land are translated and reflected in his world famous works and thus these masterpieces can best be understood & appreciated by following the Piero trail.
This special 2007 tribute to Piero della Francesca is more than simply an exhibition of his works, it is also a celebration of his itinerant artistic lifestyle that left it’s mark in a significant number of Renaissance courts in central Italy including Perugia, Florence, Ferrara, Rimini, Rome and Urbino.
Arezzo / Sansepolcro area
A delightfully historical and tranquil town in the Upper Tiber Valley perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of the world acclaimed artist Piero della Francesca. Some of his works are exhibited at the Museo Civico, in the nearby town of Monterchi and also in Arezzo. In addition to an intriguing history Sansepolcro offers a genuine insight into Italian life, with a great range of shops, bars and restaurants as well as significant market days every Tuesday and Saturday. The historical centre is charming and very authentic, very Italian and to date surprisingly has not yet been swamped with tourists on a grand commercial scale making it even more special for visitors, menus are certainly not translated into 4 languages! Just a few minutes from La Casina is one of the most delightful medieval hilltop towns in all of Italy, a wonderful sight approaching from Sansepolcro

Guestbook
We had a wonderful time staying at La Casina Rosa. Justine and Antonio have done a wonderful job setting up the house with everything you could need, they even helped us with our laundry! We are so happy that we got to stay here and really experience Tuscany. S. Talbert, Colourado Springs, Colourado
In no other rental property have I found such a well equipped kitchen. Justine has provided all that is necessary to cook with pleasure. A frig filled with the makings of not just one breakfast and a delicious bowl of fruit were indications of the standard of excellence provided by Justine and Antonio in every aspect of this apartment. In a tranquil setting with secure parking it is possible to enjoy the peace of the garden yet reach many points of interest in a short car journey F.Fullarton, Auckland, New Zealand
Wow where to start???? Amazing is the only word that can describe my experience at La Casina. I wouldn't have wanted my first trip to Italy to go any other way. The apartment was just the right size for my mother and I, and the location was one of perfection (the best place to travel for a real taste of Tuscany and to celebrate a graduation). The best part was the warm and friendly welcome that we received from our hosts (the entire family) thank you so very much. While we were unlike most guests (traveling all over the region not to only nearby places) we were given nothing but helpful information in regards to our travels (the safest ways to take and the most scenic routes). And when we were not traveling we enjoyed nothing but peace and relaxation in this perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the States. The food was spectacular the best I've ever had: tastes that have imprinted my memory for a life time. Thank you so much I look forward to seeing you (my new friends) in the near future! Our vacation at La Casina Rosa was everything we had hoped for and more! The location is ideal for day trips to Florence, Siena, Assisi, Cortona and the wine region of Chianti. The apartment is charming, comfortable and well appointed and the pool is the perfect spot to relax under the Tuscan sun. The cooking class with Justine and the delicious meals we shared with her family made our experience even more memorable. Justine and Antonio welcomed us as guests but we feel that we left as friends! R. & N. Waterfall, Ottawa, CANADA
What a relaxing and happy break from the streets of Milan Venice and Florence. It is tranquil. You are generous and the apartment very very lovely. I wish you well. A delightful interlude in great surroundings and first class accommodation with warm friendly hosts. Really enjoyed. Montgomery, Christchurch New Zealand
