The Menorca region
Menorca is a great choice for a holiday destination. It's very easy to reach by plane and flights from almost anywhere in Europe are at only 2 hours away. Although it's a sunny destination, it's has managed to keep his quietness by not allowing big developments to spoil the island. In our opinion, Menorca it's an excellent choice for families and people wanted to relax in the sun.
Minorca is located in the centre of the western Mediterranean. It is the furthest to the east and north of the Balearic archipelago and together with its 702 square kilometres and 216 kilometres of coastline it is (after Majorca) the second largest. The furthest distance is between Cabo de la Mola on the eastern coast and Cabo de Bajolí on the western side: 53km. The island is very flat and it has no great mountains. The highest point is located in the centre of the island and it's known as El Monte Toro (358m ) in Mercadal. By travelling around the island, you’ll soon appreciate the wide variety of landscapes: lagoons and marshes, small springs, smooth hills and deep gorges are some of the natural treasures. Its coastline opens into safe anchoring sites like the magnificent port of Maó, one of the largest in the world.
Minorca is also a popular destination for travellers. Although most people come for the climate and the beaches, the island has quite a few historic sights as well. Of particular note are the Paleo-Christian basilicas and monuments from the Talayotic culture / Stone Age.
Mao, the capital of the Island, is an important commercial and industrial centre. Apart from its architecture, fairs, festivals and fiestas which gives Mao such a cosmopolitan feel, the main attraction, is its extraordinary natural harbour, where elegance, party and ambience meet together.
The old capital, Ciutadella has many monuments dating from the 18th century and is a charming town. Its harbour is a meeting place for yachts, nice fishy restaurants and its popular night market. The local festivities are celebrated during the summer throughout the different towns. These local events are the best proof of the authentic Minorca customs. The first of these festivities is held in Ciutadella between the 23rd and 24th of June coinciding with St John’s, the city’s patron Saint. The last “fiesta” happens in the capital Mao around mid September. A real festivity, in its entire meaning; an ancient protocol marks each moment of the festivity. The ending to all these celebrations it’s marked by some dance and music in a very traditional manner and usually lead by local band.
There are many other events to attend around the island during summer. For a full listing please visit: http://www.visitmenorca.com/default.asp?idsubcat=748&idsub=748&idcat=744〈=en We really know that you will not be disappointed by coming to Minorca; have a good time, and respect the island!
Arenal d'en Castell / Coves Noves area
Coves Noves is a quiet complex in the area of Es Mercadal, in the north Coast of Menorca. It's located in a hillside and so most of its properties have beautiful sea views. At 800m you can find Arenal de'n Castell, a famous beach with white sand, and all the facilities of a friendly beach (supermarkets, souvenirs, restaurants, Pubs, water sport etc).
The small fishing town of Na Macaret it's only at 15 minute walk and it has a very small and also beautiful beach. It also has a very well known Restaurant which is named Acuario. Coves Noves is well situated and amongst others, these can be found relatively near by: 2km Port d'Addaia, at 7km the GOLF of Son Park. The lovely fishing village and Bay of Fornells is only at 10 minute drive. In Fornells you can enjoy a great deal of water sports and nice evening meals by the harbour.
By staying at Coves Noves, you have access to its private Tennis Club which has a large Swimming Pool, Tennis and Paddle Court and other sports and grounds. It also has a bar/restaurant. All the shops in Coves Noves are set apart in a Commercial Centre where our office is. This is to ensure that all the noise is kept away from people trying to rest.
