Home description

The property is a modern townhouse with four floors. It is light and airy with plenty of space. There are 2 bedrooms available, each with a balcony, the master bedroom being en-suite. There is a main bathroom with hydro bath/shower. The spacious living/dining room has TV and DVD player and a sofa which converts to a 4' bed. Outside the living room is a large south-facing sun terrace backing on to a pleasant communal garden with a large swimming pool. The kitchen is fully-fitted. On the top floor is a large double-aspect studio with two sun terraces. The basement can be used for storage of bulky items such as surf boards or cycles and adjoining this is a secure parking area accessed via a remote-activated garage door. At the front is a small courtyard with a brick barbecue. There is plenty of space and it's ideal for families. The condominium is usually very quiet, especially during the week, and guests will often have the pool and garden to themselves! So it is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday in the sun.

The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast region

The appeal of the Silver Coast is its beautiful coastline with long, uncrowded sandy beaches, cliffs and sanddunes. It is largely unspoilt with none of the large-scale development seen on the Algarve or the Spanish Costas. In character it is much more like Devon and Cornwall than the Mediterranean but there are about 300 days of sunshine a year although the heat is rarely oppressive, unlike the Mediterranean. Within a 30 minutes drive of Areia Branca are the fishing harbour and resort of Peniche and Cape Carvoeiro with breathtaking scenery and one of Europe's most westerly points, the furthest west being Cabo da Roca which is only about 30 miles to the south. There are several golf courses, including Praia Del Rey. Also the vineyards around Bombarral, the lovely mediaeval walled-town of Obidos and historic Torres Vedras. Other resorts include Foz da Arelho, on the Obidos lagoon nature reserve, Sao Martinho, with it's enclosed bay, and Nazare. And of course less than an hour's drive away is Lisbon, one of Europe's great cities and a must to visit. There are also regular express bus services to Lisbon from Lourinha or Praia Areia Branca costing about 7 euros and taking about an hour. In the Lisbon area are the resorts of Estoril and Cascais, Sintra with it's historic palaces and the National Palace at Mafra.

Areia Branca area

Areia Branca is a small traditional community on a hillside overlooking the Atlantic coast. Next to the house is a wide expanse of sand dunes and a 10 minute walk across the dunes leads to a lovely, uncrowded stretch of beach, which can also be reached in a couple of minutes by car. The dunes are a protected reserve with a multitude of flowers and plants to be seen especially in early summer. There are superb views from the house north along the Atlantic coast as far as Peniche and Cabo Carvoeiro and the Berlenga islands. Across the valley is Praia Areia Branca which is a small resort with shops, restaurants and bars and a tourist information office (open in summer) about 20 minutes walk or a few minutes by car. There are surfing facilities where equipment can be rented and tuition is available. There is also a go-kart track and tennis courts. The pleasant town of Lourinha is only a 5 minute drive away with 3 supermarkets and banks, bars, shops and restaurants. There is also an interesting museum which houses many dinosaur fossils found along the nearby beaches and cliffs which is why it is also known as the "Jurassic Coast". Lourinha also produces Aguardente da Lourinha, a renowned brandy.

How to get there

Flights to Lisbon include BA and TAP and budget airlines Easyjet from Liverpool , Bristol, Luton and Gatwick and BMI Baby (Birmingham and Manchester).
Lisbon airport has many car hire companies. Europcar and Guerin are good, budget ones.
Driving from the airport is easy and direct - the A8 dual-carriageway to jnc 9 and N247 Peniche road to Areia Branca. Journey time about 45 minutes.
There are buses from Lisbon to Peniche calling at Lourinha and Praia Areia Branca. Journey time about 1 hour.

A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to secure booking, the balance to be paid six weeks before your arrival. If you wish to book your holiday within a shorter time period than this the full balance will be payable to secure the booking. A refundable breakages deposit of £150 is required on payment of the balance to be refunded within two weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection).

Holiday was great, what a beautiful area. We loved the house and felt as though we were the only guests in a hotel!!! only a few people around, mind you we spent every day out. The coast line is so interesting and we spent an overnight in Lisbon. Then visited various places from Sintra to Fatima!!! and the festival at Peniche was fun.

We had a very good time in Areia Branca and thought the house was lovely - very spacious, nice pool and quiet, so very relaxing. We also managed to get in 3 games of golf - at Oitavos and Quinta da Marinha near Cascais and at Praia del Rey.

Thank you for the use of your house, we were so comfortable that we did very little other than enjoying the local area. We would thoroughly recommend it especially if you want peace and quiet and to get away from it all. We had some great walks along the beaches and drinks in the bars at sunset. Eating and drinking out is still as cheap as chips and the trek over the sand dunes burns off any excesses! All in all we had a great time.
