The Limerick / Tipperary / County Limerick region

Ballyhoura Country is situated in the southwest region of Ireland, on the borders of counties Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. The area’s ancient and unspoilt landscapes make it an ideal location for a range of outdoor activities. Here you can create your very own adventure break with a great selection of outdoor activities and events to suit families, groups and individuals alike.
The area has a good choice of walks and cycle paths and if you like a quicker pace there is plenty mountain biking, kayaking, wake boarding, fishing, shooting, hill running, orienteering and adventure racing, all guaranteed to provide a challenge.
Whatever gets your heart racing be sure to stop and take a deep breath, feel the wind in your face, taste real local food and experience the warm hospitality of the area.
Nightlife varies from traditional rambling houses, small village pubs, excellent restaurants to the brighter lights of the larger towns.
The Ardpatrick area
On the hill above the village is the site of a 5th century monastery and round tower or cloictheach, now in ruins. Legend tells of a peal of 7 silver bells which once hung in the tower. The monastery was reputedly founded by St.Patrick himself and is surrounded by earthworks probably far more ancient. From the hill can be seen Castle Oliver, a 19th Century mansion built by the Oliver Gascoignes.
