The County Down region
A few miles away from the cottage lies the stunning National Trust site of Castle Ward, the backdrop to HBO's Game of Thrones. Follow the coastal path from Strangford Lough to another National Trust gem of Mount Stewart. Downpatrick is only 8 miles away and is the location of St Patricks burial place, Down Cathedral, Down county Museum, Railway Museum, as well as a selection of restaurants and shops. The beautiful Tyrella beach and St Johns Point are only a few miles away. Newcastle and the stunning Mourne Mountains are approx. 18 miles from the cottage. County Down boasts a selection of beautiful beaches, rivers, castles, golf courses, and the area is ideal for walkers, cyclists, anglers and families of all ages.
Ardglass is situated 1 mile from Coney Island, it has a selection of restaurants, shops, bars,take away restaurants and bank machine. It is the home of the award winning Ardglass Golf club, which boasts of being the oldest club house in the world. There is also a marina in the town as well as a working harbour. There is also a regular bus service to and from Downpatrick, which has connections to other local towns as well as Belfast.
