About the home

The Sutherland Hills are arguably one of the true wilderness regions of Scotland. Overlooking this sublime landscape is Hilton, a traditional, detached cottage that enjoys an elevated position within a tranquil glen and nestled within working farmland. Much care and attention to detail was given to the recent refurbishment of the croft and the result is a holiday property that will leave an indelible mark on all those lucky enough to stay here. The lounge for example, enjoys stunning views and has the benefit of a charming open fire. The kitchen is spacious and exudes a lovely and warming 'farmhouse kitchen' type atmosphere. There are four bedrooms, each presented in an individual style owing to the clever use of co-ordinated fabrics and furnishings. Holiday mornings are important to guests and where better to start the day than sitting in a sun-porch with cup of tea or coffee in hand watching the sublime landscape and wildlife stir into life.

The Scottish Highlands region

Natural and untouched, a place that has been unspoilt by the demands of tourism or commercial interests, the Highlands of Scotland is one of Britain's most beautiful and stunning holiday destinations.
Here you will find Britain's highest mountain ranges, miles of open countryside and a multitude of lochs; all this and an untouched coastline with picturesque coves and pristine clean beaches.
This is the place for a great 'outdoors' holiday with plenty of activities for all ages; including wonderful walking and cycling, canoeing, fishing, golf and sailing, beach combing and wildlife watching. The list goes on.
There are also lots of historical sites and ancient towns to discover in the Highlands which you'll find throughout the region as you travel along its quiet and beautiful country roads.

The Ardgay area

Sutherland is holiday heaven for walkers, cyclists and fishermen. There are numerous walking trails and cycle lanes throughout the region with a number within easy access of the croft. The quaint church located at Croick at the far end of the glen is well known for the pivotal role in played during the infamous and brutal highland clearances during the 19th century and is well worth a visit. One of the 'must-sees' in Sutherland is the Falls of Shin, just under a half an hour's drive away from the property. This is a spectacular series of waterfalls and the lucky few may even catch a glimpse of a salmon trying to work its way up the falls. Whilst the region is wild and untamed, the lovely Highland village of Bonar Bridge is only five miles away. This is set at the junction of four Highland rivers all renowned as salmon rivers. The village has its own golf course and a good range of amenities including some excellent food and drink establishments. Visitors should also take the time to take a slow drive westwards to the sublime west coast of Scotland- approximately fifty miles away. The scenery on route is fantastic and visitors will ultimately be rewarded with their first glimpse of the glistening waters of the Atlantic!
