About this location
The Andalucia region
Situated an hour inland from the beautiful unspoilt coast of the Costa de la Luz with its gorgeous beaches, Algar is a pretty, traditional white village ('pueblo blanco') only 15 minutes from the stunning town of Arcos de la Frontera, a stunning pueblo blanco perched dramatically on a cliff, with narrow cobbled streets dating back hundreds of years. Arcos de la Frontera is perfect for a wander round in the early evening, followed by a meal in one of the many restaurants in the Old Town.
The climate here is good, this being the closest part of Europe to North Africa. You could easily be sitting outside to eat at any time of the year, even during winter months and certainly from May onwards, the weather is settled and very warm. During the hot (but not humid) summer months, there is often a welcome cooling breeze.
This is considered the birthplace of Spain, as many of the well known customs originated in this region - flamenco, tapas, bull-fighting to name a few. It is rich in history and there is much to interest the historian and those interested in visiting ancient monuments. It is also a very green area, with rolling hills, high dramatic mountains, lakes, forests etc and is perfect for walking holidays, bird watching (being on the main migratory route from N. Africa), wild flowers etc.
It's history and turbulent past are evident in the pretty, white 'pueblos blancos', many perched on high ground, with castles. The most famous of these is Ronda, only an hour away from Algar, and a 'must see'.
There are many fiestas and other traditional activities taking place throughout the year and these are well worth visiting. The locals are very open and friendly and you will be made very welcome. The most famous is the Carnival in Cadiz, only 45 minutes' drive away, and a great experience. The religous processions at Easter are spectacular.
This region is totally unspoilt as it has not been discovered by many tourists. This is a world away from the 'Costas' - in fact, this is 'Real Spain'.

"A Hidden Gem …""
Casa Algar is a hidden gem both literally and figuratively. It is very much off the beaten Andalucian track away out in the country (almost) at the end of a very winding and narrow road. It is tucked… More
We're so glad that you enjoyed your taste of 'Real Spain' & that you enjoyed our recommendations. There's so many lovely places to visit in the vicinity. It was lovely to talk by email with you before your holiday & get a feel for what you wanted to do - glad we got it right!
Just a note for out of season bookings - we do provide extra bedding but remove it from the house in the warmer months for cleaning.

"Excellent, well maintained accomodation"
This is a lovely house, clean comfortable & well equipped. The pretty little village had all that you need such as village supermarket, bakery, bank, pharmacy etc. all within a minute or two's walk.
We found the house well located for sightseeing. We loved Jerez and recommend a sherry tour. Also Arcos de la Frontera was only 15 minutes away. It's very atmospheric and had good restaurants for a nice evening out.
The scen ery here is spectacular and there is excellent walking. A lovely place to relax.
Thank you for taking the time to review Casa Algar, it's much appreciated. We're pleased that you enjoyed you stay and liked the property.

"Lovely Spanish holiday"
We stayed for a week in this lovely comfortable house. I liked the way it was furnished & it was easy to park there. We were there in July but the house was kept beautifully cool with ceiling fans.
We found it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside and particularly liked the beautiful beaches on the Costa de la Luz. We also enjoyed days at the village pool and liked to drive to Arcos de la Frontera, which wasn't far away, to eat out in the evening in the Old Town. It's great for a chilled & relaxing holiday.
We're so glad you enjoyed your holiday and liked the property. It is such a little-known part of Spain and so beautiful. Well worth a visit. Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
