The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

The region was colonised byy the Greeks and omans, invaded by the Saracens and Turks, ince partly ruled by the Italians and then in the mid 19th century discovered by the British aristocray to avoid the winters. it was not until the 1920's that the 'Belle Monde', artists, musicians and writers, etc came, attracted by the hot summers, relaxed lifestyle that the Cote d'azur as we know it today was born, along with the bikini and sunbathing. There are many diverse cultural and culinary inflences and each small region has its own feel such as: Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Antibes, St Tropez, Grasse, Vence, St Paul de Vence to name just a few.

The area is famous first and foremost for its light, contrasting with dark green vegetation, blue seas, rich soil, attracting many famous artists - Picasso and Stael who both iived in Antibes. The climate is hot and sunny in the summer but can suffer from small showers and can be humid, with warm nights. Lots to see and do

Antibes has two distinct areas, the centre where the more upmarket shops, businesses, banks and real estate agents are located, with some vestiges of the Belle Epoch still visible, especially around Place de Gaul and blvd Albert. 1st. Secondly the Old Town with its food, antiques, clothing and bric a bac markets, small local shops nested in the tiny winding streets bordered on 2 sides by the ancient ramparts and overlooked by the Picasso museum and Port Vauban. Antibes has one of the largest leisure ports in the mediterranean and the yachting industry plays a large part in day to day life. Both Antibes and Juan le pins have many restaurants and bars serving all kinds of food and let's nto forget Geoffrey's who stock all nglish food products. Nightlife in Juan les Pins is very vibrant with shops, restuarants etc staying open quite late.

Cap d'Antibes a green picturesque area dominated by the Chapel and lighthouse (visit for the view) and home to the famous Hotel du Cap den Roc, and Belles Rives hotels. Well worth visiting for a drink, if rather expensive.

You cannot visit here without taking the walk around the cap following the spectacular coastline.

"Art Deco Chic in Antibes."

Lovely 1st floor apartment 5 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from the old town. The apartment has terraces front and rear, large enough for lounging or just relaxing, the interior is tastefully … More
