The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Juan les Pins is a wonderful place to stay in itself but it is also ideally positioned in the centre of the Cote d'Azur, so you can explore all the way from St. Tropez to Monaco and Menton. A railway line runs along the coast from St. Raphael to Menton. The Cote d'Azur enjoys hot summers and mild winters; we have been in November and eaten lunch outside every day. An outstanding feature of the Cote is the glorious light which has attracted so many artists to the region.
Set between the sea and mountains, the Cote has dramatic and breathtaking scenery. There are wonderful beaches, with a variety of watersports and boat trips available. Inland there are many very old hill villages, bursting with character, with narrow winding streets and ancient buildings. Significant towns like Antibes, Cannes, Grasse and Nice, are all within easy reach of Juan les Pins; all have fascinating old towns, steeped in history, surrounded by the modern-day town with shops, restaurants, etc.
The region has a rich cultural life, with musical events and festivals, ballet, jazz, and local folk events too. Many places are well-known for particular events or local products, e.g Menton (lemons), Cannes (film festival), Grasse (perfume), Biot (glass-blowing), Monaco (Grand Prix), St. Paul de Vence (artists), Vallauris (pottery).
The Cote d'Azur has long been a glamorous playground for the rich and famous; but, there is plenty to suit every budget and taste.
The Antibes / Juan les Pins area
Juan les Pins has glorious and extensive sandy beaches, with beach restaurants and bars, fantastic views along the coast, looking out to the Lerins islands and the bay of Cannes, as well as inland to the mountains. There are water sports and boat trips available.
There is a supermarket about ten minutes walk from our apartment, and a full range of traditional small shops including bakers, butchers, greengrocers, etc., as we used to find on our high streets. A hypermarket is also available a short drive away, as is a smart out-of-town shopping centre (Cap 3000).
Local buses from Juan run to Antibes, Biot, Valbonne, and Villenouve-Loubet (the birthplace of the chef Escoffier) - bus tickets are just 1 euro for any distance.
Juan les Pins merges into the town of Antibes which has a beautiful old town, with a daily market for local produce. Antibes has the largest yachting harbour in Europe, and a number of museums, including the Picasso Museum, and the historic Square Fort, which has stunning views across the harbour.
Juan is a great place for walks, along the beach with wonderful views, around the Cap d'Antibes with its beautiful villas and rugged dramatic coastline, up to the Garoupe Lighthouse with its ancient mariners' Chapel, or through to the old ramparts of Antibes, taking you directly into the old town and the harbour. There are a number of local parks and gardens well worth a visit. If you like music, there are often concerts in the Cathedral of Antibes and surrounding towns, many of which are free.

AIR
Flights to Nice take around 2 hours from the UK (flights available from easyjet, jet 2, British Airways and swiss) ; the airport is about 45 minutes drive from the apartment. There are plenty of taxis available at the airport, or you can hire a car (cheaper to prebook on the internet or through an agent - travelsupermarket.co.uk is good to compare prices, or try europcar.co.uk). Bus 250 (express) goes from the airport to the centre of Juan.
CAR
It is a long drive from Calais but the motorways are good and less crowded than in the UK; there are plenty of interesting places to stop at on the way, if you want to break the journey. The apartment is about 30 minutes away from the Antibes exit on the A8 motorway.
TRAIN
Juan les Pins has its own station, but high-speed trains stop at the next station down the line (Antibes), then the apartment is not far by taxi or bus.

The appartement is located between Antibes and Juan les Pins, close to jazz park. It has a nice little garden where you can sit under the shadow of an old olive tree. Easy to park. Ten minutes to walk down to the beach. |

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this apartment. It was fresh and clean and had a lovely small courtyard which made the living area and bit more spacious. Great location to walk to beach and shops and adequate parking around the building. |
