The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol has long stretches of beautiful coastline and some of the best beaches in Europe. The Costa del Sol is also known as the “Golfers’ Paradise”, as along the coast you have the choice of 86 marvellous Golf Courses, many within a few minutes drive from here.
Málaga, which was a millenarian and cosmopolitan city in the past, preserves all its historical roots. Far-off times it witnessed the Mediterranean culture's and man's origins. Although it is the modern capital of the most outstanding Andalusian tourism industry, it has friendly traditional manners.
Málaga possesses a seafaring littoral, were winter never exists and far inland, the countryside shows all the beauty of nature.
Architecturally beautiful white villages, wrapped in romantic legends, make bright the hidden valleys where life means peace. And from the high sierra, one's sight catches the horizon for losing itself in the immensity of the blue sea.
Antequera / La Higuera area
800m to the small village of La Higuera (where there is a cafeteria-bar and a grocery shop); 6km to the village of Villanueva de la Concepcion (with all services); 48km to Malaga and its beaches, 110km to Granada (1h 30 min.), 140km to Cordoba (1h 45 min.) and 192km to Seville (2h 15 min.), being all of them monumental cities of Andalucia.
But if you want to stay at this place, there is a lot to know few kilometres away from the property, the Archaeological Museum in Antequera (18km), Verdiales festival in Villanueva de la Concepcion on the last week of July or taste the coat’s cheeses which are made in the nearby village of La Higuera where we can get on foot taking a pleasant walk.
There are plenty of hiking routes in this area which go along the Torcal Natural Park, discovering shapes and stone figures built with the passing of time as the consequence of erosion. Other interesting visits for nature lovers are El Chorro reservoir, Villa river source and Fuente de Piedra Lake, where you will see many flamingos which nest in this place.
This is a region of flat lands dotted with occasional hills, a crossroads between the Mediterranean and the River Guadalquivir, with fertile valleys where the rivers collect into small lakes.
The traveller will discover a vast heritage, with monuments created both by nature and by man. Antequera has the most important megalithic monument in Europe: the Menga dolmen, as well as the Viera and El Romeral dolmens; the Fuente de Piedra lake is a sanctuary for a colony of pink flamingos; and El Torcal is a natural museum with mysterious sculptures carved by erosion out of a huge limestone rock.
Examples of Baroque architecture can be found scattered throughout the towns of Alameda, Archidona with its famous Plaza Ochavada square, Campillos, Humilladero, Mollina, Teba and others. Discover all the beauty of the towns in the Antequera region.
