About the home
The Old Inn is a beautiful holiday home in Pittenweem, in the heart of the East Neuk of Fife. Pittenweem is one of the most painted and photographed villages in the UK due to its unspoiled picture postacard townscape. It has become famous for its annual arts festival providing visitors with a week long fest of fine art exhibitions, crafts and local folk music, made all the more interesting by a majority of the venues being local people’s homes. Pittenweem is one of the historic fishing villages nestling along the East Neuk of Fife, and still has a working fishing harbour today. It is a wonderful location from which to explore the East Neuk by car, bicycle or on foot. If you play golf, you will be spoiled for choice among the many golf courses in the area, which includes the famous Old Course at St Andrews which is only a short drive away. Whatever time of year you decide to come you will receive a warm and friendly welcome. Enjoy the novelty of staying in the former Coaching Inn that is one of the oldest buildings in the village, dating from 1617, a time of smugglers, highwaymen and witches.
Tucked away in a quiet position just off the high street, yet only a short walk to all amenities including the beach and the pretty harbour, the Old Inn has been renovated as a spacious, well equipped and comfortable holiday home that sleeps up to six. The house is bright and airy and furnished to a high standard. The private courtyard to the front of the house has table/chairs and chiminea for chilly evenings. There is a separate large utility/boot room which can be accessed directly from the courtyard where bikes or other sports equipment may be stored and where you will find a large selection of games for children. Wi-Fi internet access and digital LCD televisions are just some of the facilities provided for guests today that could not have been dreamed of by the original guests at the Inn when it was built nearly four hundred years ago.
A small dog is welcome by arrangement.

The Fife region

Pittenweem is a village in the heart of the East Neuk of Fife. 'Neuk' is old Scots for 'corner'. It is one of a string of pretty fishing villages along the coast, including Elie, Anstruther and Crail.
The Kingdom of Fife is an ancient region with its own distinct identity. It is the Ancestral home of the Scottish monarchs, world famous for its golf and has some of Scotland's best scenery. Fife has been the site of many of the most important events in Scottish history, which is why it has a wealth of castles, cathedrals, and places of historic interest. Dunfermline in the southern part of the region is an ancient capital of Scotland.
In Central Fife is the historic village of Falkland with its impressive palace, and nearby is the market town of Cupar, set in rolling countryside.
St Andrews, Scotland's oldest university town and the home of the world-famous Royal and Ancient golf club, are must-see visitor attractions.
The Kingdom of Fife is known throughout the world as the home of golf and boasts more than forty courses, from the famous Old Course at St Andrews, to many traditional seaside links, to beautifully landscaped parkland and heathland courses suitable for golfers of all abilities.
The Fife coastline is a very special environment which has distinctive rock formations and varied wildlife. In the East Neuk, long sections of the Fife Coastal Path stretching from Elie, past Pittenweem to Crail can now be enjoyed by recreational and serious walkers. From the coast you can see grey seals and, in summer, basking sharks and dolphins. The nearby islands of Inchcolm and Inchkeith are home to thousands of seabirds, with large numbers of puffins found on the Isle of May. You can see these close up by taking one of the boat trips to the islands from Anstruther.
East Fife and the East Neuk enjoys one of the driest climates in Scotland, with more sun and lower rainfall than most other areas, and no midges!
The Anstruther / Pittenweem area
Pittenweem is one of the most painted and photographed villages in the UK due to its unspoiled picture postacard townscape. It has become famous for its annual arts festival in August, providing visitors with a week long fest of fine art exhibitions, crafts and local folk music, made all the more interesting by a majority of the venues being local people’s homes. Pittenweem is one of the historic fishing villages nestling along the East Neuk of Fife, and still has a working fishing harbour today. It is a wonderful location from which to explore the East Neuk and the wider Kingdom of Fife by car, bicycle or on foot. Further afield, St Andrews is 20 minutes drive away. Perth, Edinburgh and Dundee are all around an hour. Walking, cycling, sailing, other water sports and of course golf are all activities enjoyed by our visitors. Whatever time of year you decide to come you will receive a warm and friendly welcome.
