About the home

This traditional cottage was built around 1900 and has been refurbished in more recent times to incorporate two bedrooms on the first floor. One double and one single room. The kitchen, bathroom and living/dining room are on the ground floor.

Anstruther is a perfect base for visiting the 'home of golf' St. Andrews and the surrounding fishing villages of the East Neuk.

The Fife region

The Kindom of Fife on Scotland's east coast is world-famous for its golf and some of Scotland's best scenic attractions, with its own distinct identity.

The coastline of the East Neuk of Fife is scattered with picturesque fishing villages, perfect for relaxing walks at any time of the year. For more serious walkers, The Fife coastline is a very special environment which has distinctive rock formations, delicate flora and a varied wildlife. The Isle of May is home to vast numbers of Puffins, accessible by boat. The May Princess leaves from Anstruther Harbour sailing daily between April and September.

Anstruther is the main fishing village in the East Neuk, making it an excellent base for your holiday at any time of the year.

With a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, seafood is a popular feature on the menu. The town is also home to the famous Anstruther Fish Bar.

Anstruther is most easily accessible by road. There are good bus links from Edinburgh, however if you prefer to use the train, the closest railway station is Leuchars, approximately 23km away. There is then a bus service that will bring you to and from Anstruther.

Edinburgh airport is around 65km hours drive from Anstruther and there are various car hire companies at the airport such as Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Enterprise.

“A pleasent place to stay” Myself and my partner stayed at the Holmlea cottage in late October and had a very pleasant stay. The cottage is easy to find located on a quiet road set back from the main A-road through Anstruther. Parking is provided for one vehicle. Anstruther town centre is less than a 5 minute walk away and a local grocery shop, which, is open late is less than 50 metres from the Cottage. The cottage has modern central heating which provides hot water on demand and rapidly recovers the desired ambient room temperatures. Towels and bed linen were provided and we noted additional pillows and duvets were available from the wardrobe in the upstairs hall if required. The cottage was of very high standard and in some respects, undervalued for the quality of accommodation and facilities provided. All rooms were exceptionally clean throughout and comfortable to stay in. Having always stayed in 4/5 star hotels on most vacations, we only missed the comforts of room service. Perhaps the owner will consider for our next visit? We were impressed at the owner's efforts to provide documentation on the local area and places worth visiting. The location is central to St Andrews, Crail, Pittenweem and Kirkcaldy and a very pleasant place to stay. In summary, we would like to thank the owner for the pleasant stay we had at the Holmlea cottage and would recommend the accommodation to others. We hope to visit again in future. “A lovely cottage - highly recommended” A great service from the owner of this property, which is beautifully maintained and very conveniently located for both local supermarket and the seafront. The owner even took the time to post a few forgotten items of property back to us, without being asked. I would certainly hope to stay there again.

“Perfect” For me and my group (myself, wife, daughter and granddaughter) ? Perfect. Couldn't ask for better and would gladly live there permanently. Exceptionally clean and with all amenities. Hope to go back there again.
