The relief on entering this cottage was immense as it was exactly as shown in the photographs, modern, very well appointed and scrupiosly clean. We simply unpacked and relaxed immediately (not... more |

I am really fussy so when we arrived at Salt Herring to a beautiful, warm, well furnished cottage we were really pleased. We arrived in the dark and with driving rain but the cottage was cosy and we settled in straight away. The level of finish on the decor was amazing and I could find no fault with anything. Shower worked perfectly with piping hot water on demand, the wood burning fire was delightful and when daylight arrived the view was stunning. We had some fairly grim weather when we stayed but never once did we feel cold or gloomy in this lovely space and the dramatic views of the sea from the lounge were worth the 8 hour drive from MK. Ian and Janis who own the cottage were welcoming and helpful with local information and even left us some sweets and shortbread for when we arrived. Everything was spotlessly clean and it all worked. As I work in lighting the LED sensors mirrors in both bathrooms particularly appealed and the cosy lights in the lounge set the right ambiance for the evening. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage as it was exactly like the photos and did not disappoint in any way. The local village is nice too and the bakers where we got bread and pies from did a great selection which were very tasty. The fish and chip shop did amazing food and I had the chicken curry which was super. The roads are a bit narrow round there so driving is fun but walking about is a breeze and the harbour and town are worth exploring. The Bank pub also did a very good meal. If you want something more fancy though we were told the seafood restaurant at St Monans would be worth a visit but we couldn't get in. We did however go to Ostlers in Cupar which was spectacular and along with the food gave warm and sincere service. Great break in a lovely location with perfect surroundings, can't ask for more. |

On our arrival we found that the heating had been switched on, fresh flowers had been placed in vases and a box of shortbread and some sweets had been left for us. All small touches but it made us feel very welcome. The accommodation is on two levels, the lower level has the 2 bedrooms, a double (with en-suite) and a twin both tastefully decorated and cosy. The en-suite has a large deep bath which is ideal for a soak after a days walking along the coast. There is also a shower room with toilet on this level. The real surprise comes when you head up to the upper level where the lounge/kitchen is located. Almost the entire south facing wall of this area is made up of windows giving you an amazing view over the Firth of Forth including the May Island, Bass Rock and Berwick Law. You can also see onto the immediate foreshore where there are a variety of birds (we are both RSPB members). The kitchen and living room are well equipped with everything that you would require and there is also a dining table for six people. The property has been recently renovated and it is obvious that the owners have invested a substantial sum of money on providing decent quality furniture etc... We have already re-booked for September which speaks for itself really. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends and family. Well done Janis & Ian! |
