The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Annecy in the north of the French Alps is the Venice of Savoie and it is a well deserved title. The medieval town centre built around a 14th Century Chateau is dissected by small canals and streams running out of Lac d'Annecy, which is clean, fresh and a wonderful azure colour. Annecy is also the prefecture of the département of Haute-Savoie and only 50km south of Geneva and Switzerland.
Lake Annecy, its town and villages provide an abundance of interesting places to visit and exciting things to do. Whatever your choice - culture, fine food and wines, lazy days, sport, nature - it can be found easily in the Annecy area.
The Annecy / Doussard area
There are plenty of options for swimming. The lake is the cleanest in Europe and has many small free and public access beach areas to chill out at. The nearest swimming pool is on a private campsite in the nearby village of St Jorioz (also on the cycle path) at Camping Europa.
A visitor's charge covers the whole day and access to the two swimming pools and slide pool. There is also an excellent indoor pool with slide at Seynod, to the south-west of Annecy town.
For more details on local activities visit our own website at www.annecyvilla.com
The area is ideal for cycling, and only 50 metres from the villa you can access the purpose-built bike path that runs alongside Lake Annecy. The location offers the best of cycling options for both the casual cyclist and the more serious. If you fancy some more challenging routes then the Tour de France climbs of the Col de la Colombiere, Col des Aravis, Col des Saisies, Col de la Forclaz, Col du Cormet de Roseland are all within reach.
For those seeking a more leisurely cycle, then the bike path is ideal to get you out and about. It is also perfect for children of all ages. Plenty of locations rent bicycles, and the local cafe next to the Les Perles du Lac entrance rents bikes for a few hours or a whole week, and includes bikes with child transporters as well.
There is a huge variety of walking available in the local area, offering everything from a light stroll in forests to strenuous day hikes up some magnificent mountains.
Annecy offers both the experienced and the inexperienced paragliding (parapente) and hang-gliding (delta) pilots the best of aerial opportunities. There are numerous tandem flight companies based at the Doussard landing field only a 5 min drive from the villa, offering flights from Col d'Forclaz (which is directly opposite the villa).
For the experienced paragliding or hang-gliding pilot, Annecy is one of the best known flying sites in Europe.
Days Out:
La Clusaz: Mountain biking, luge, cable car, ice rink, adventure thrills, walking
Chamonix: Mountain railway, ice-caves, walking, climbing, adventure playground
Saint-Gervais: Mountain railway, glacier, walking, climbing
Walibi Amusement Park: Roller coasters and more

La Foret de l'Aventure near Talloires:
In addition there are trampoline and bouncy castle parks as well as crazy golf.
Annecy offers a multitude of ski options. Based at the foot of the French Alps, Annecy can be a very inexpensive way to get onto some of the best slopes in Europe within an hour. Within the locality there is Le Grand Bornand, which attracts skiers and boarders of all abilities, and La Clusaz is much bigger and also includes off track ski runs. Crest Voland and les Saisies are superb for family skiing. Le Semnoz is, however, Annecy’s best kept secret, regularly being used for Traction Kite skiing and boarding competitions.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Geneva / Chambery: 64 km |
| Railway: | Annecy: 10 km |
| Ferry: | Calais |
To reach La Perle du Lac we recommend either flying to one of the three nearby airports, Geneva, Chambery or Lyon and hiring a car (essential when touring the area) or alternatively, drive from the UK and save on travel and hire costs.
By Air:
Geneva and Chambery are the closest airports and both within a hour's drive of the villa. The A41 (opened in 2008) between Geneva and Annecy cuts the travel time down to 50 mins from airport to villa, while the same road gives a direct route to Annecy from Chambery in the South. Lyon is also fed by the A41-A43, but slightly further afield. All airports are served by low-cost and scheduled airlines from most British airports.
Air France, Air Lingus, BMIBaby, British Airways, CheapFlights, EasyJet, Flight Mapping, FlyBe, Ryan Air, Swiss Air
Hiring a Vehicle:
All airports have car hire facilities, but you must pre-book. Not just to ensure availability and choice, but it is also significantly cheaper to book in advance and on-line.
Auto-Europe, EasyCar (Geneva/Lyon only), Travel Supermarket, Holiday Autos.
By Road (from the UK):
With crossings for as little as £25 each way, driving your own car to La Perle Du Lac is a suitable alternative to flying. Traffic jams are rare on the French auto routes and although a toll is charged, it is quite insignificant when considering the benefit of having your own car and not having luggage limits. You can catch an early morning ferry from Dover around 5am and arrive in to Annecy early evening the same day.
Euro Tunnel, P&O Ferries, Sea France.
Finding La Perle du Lac:
Whether you are arriving from Chambery or Geneva, take the A41 to the Annecy-Sud exit (Junction 16). Follow the green signs to Albertville (D1508). As long as you continue to follow this direction, you will find yourself on the west side of the Lac d'Annecy heading south. Follow this road for about 7km, through the villages of Sévrier, Saint-Jorioz and then Duingt. Just after this small hamlet you pass a small chateau on a peninsula in the lake and a sharp u-bend in the road.
From here it is about 1km to the next village of Brédannaz. A set of traffic lights indicates the village and take a sharp right into the square, then exit through a narrow gap at the far left. About 300m later, there is a small cafe on your right before you cross the cycle track. The Les Perles du Lac villas are directly opposite through the electronic gates which will normally be left open. As you drive round between the two row of houses the villa is the last one on the right-hand side over looking the lake.

Guestbook for La Perle du Lac
We had a fantastic time in October. The villa is lovely and spacious and equipped to a high standard which made life very easy with our two young children. The facilities Annecy had to offer was endless and we were never stuck for ideas for the children. We will definitely be booking again next year.
