A dip is a must during the hot alpine days and nights. In the summer the area becomes very busy so being able to dip in and out is what makes our house special. We go to the beach in the morning when not so busy and disappear back into the seclusion of our home in the afternoon.

When we saw this house we knew immediately it would work for us. It was located in a beautiful corner of the lake, offering peace and tranquility, beautiful views and all day sun in the summer. All day sunshine is something that can be hard to find in an area with many of the mountains casting shadows. The house was large enough that friends could come and stay enjoying all the amenities the house and the area had to offer. The front door to this family friendly holiday home is on the pool and garden side of the house, and leads onto a hallway.

To the right is a double room with an ensuite shower which would be ideal for grandparents who can't make the stairs (or who prefer to be away from the early risers!). Also off the hallway is a separate loo.

Through the archway, you come to the elegant sitting room with its large stone fireplace, 2 big squashy sofas and armchairs; there are also 3 French windows here, opening out onto views of the lake. A lovely stained glass window gives the room lots of character and it's a great place for the adults to sit and chat, whilst the children can watch TV or play games in the mezzanine sitting room (or games room). The fire in this room is currently not in use.

A door from the sitting room leads downstairs to the games room, with bar area, sauna and table football - a great place again for older children to escape. The stairs here are gated at the bottom and have a door at the top.

Beautiful old (gated top and bottom) wooden stairs lead up to the mezzanine TV room with shelves full of books, magazines, toys, games and coloring equipment, as well as a large flat-screen TV with English satellite channels, DVDs and videos provided for everybody.

Sit on the leather sofa and armchair with the lovely furry throws and gaze out of the French sliding doors over the balcony to the lake and the surrounding mountains - you could easily spend hours doing just that.

Just off the mezzanine, there is the spacious master bedroom (room for a cot here) with a balcony and views over the lake; the ensuite bathroom has a bath and separate shower and loo. Next to this, you'll find a twin bedroom with balcony and views over the pool and garden area, as well as an ensuite with bath and another loo.

On the other side of the sitting room, you'll find the spacious kitchen, with eye level modern oven, gas hob, microwave and large fridge freezer. There is lots of cupboard space too - imagine cooking whilst watching the boats on the lake, or the snow on the mountains!

Just off the kitchen is the conservatory, which houses the dining room (seats 12; the brick pizza oven & barbecue are currently not in use). Floor to ceiling windows here mean you can dine and watch the children play in the back garden, or in the Summer time, dine outside by the pool area.

A second door from the conservatory brings you to a corridor with a double bedroom, a room with bunk beds (space for a cot) and a separate shower room with loo.

We are a family from London that decided in 2000 with our three young children, ages 5,4 & 2 to buy a holiday home. My wife wanted a beach resort by the sea and I wanted a ski chalet in the mountains. On one of our trips we came across Annecy. It proved to be the perfect compromise, giving us all year activities. The summer offered the lake with its many attractions, a beautiful city nearby with superb shopping and nightlife together with local village life In the winter we could ski in many of the surrounding resorts; Spring and autumn offers cycling, walking and outdoor activities.

Mums and dads can sit under the shady pergola or on the quality teak sun beds beside the pool, to watch little ones in the water.

The Rhone/French Alps region

Annecy, lies on the northern banks of the magnificent Lake Annecy, at the foot of the Alps. It is surrounded by alpine pastures and mountains and has incredibly beautiful views. Many tourists use Annecy as a base for touring the Haute Savoie and the areas surrounding the lake, including Geneva. The old town at Annecy is absolutely fascinating with medieval buildings, canals, quaint streets lined with restaurants and cafes, arcades, a market and several curio shops.

The lake at Annecy offers a wide range of water-sports including windsurfing, sailing fishing and water skiing. Meanwhile the mountain ranges offer cycling, mountain biking, hiking and mountaineering, horse riding and canyoning. Golfing enthusiasts can make use of the many impressive golf courses in the area. The evenings and nights at Annecy are truly delightful and during August it becomes very celebratory with street musicians, jugglers and magicians entertaining on the banks of the canal. There are many cafes, restaurants and the occasional pub on the riverbanks where you can sit back and enjoy the entertainment. Shopping at Annecy is very pleasant, strolling down the small lanes in the old town of Annecy which are lined with all types of interesting shops

St Jorioz

Saint Jorioz Situated on the western shore 10 km from Annecy. This pleasant lakeside resort is overlooked by the Semnoz mountains and enjoys beautiful views across the lake towards Menthon and Talloires. Standing out against the valley of the Laudon river in the regional parkland of the Bauges, Saint-Jorioz extends its natural beauty to the water's edge. Its sandy beach, marina and footpaths offer a special selection of delights all year round?

Annecy

The chalet is situated just 5 minutes from the village and the lake beach. You can take the car (or a bike) down the hill to the beach, where the shallow waters are fabulous for a toddler safe paddle. A little off the shore are great diving boards and jumping-off islands for the more adventurous too!

Right behind the beach is a cafe / restaurant so you can be sure of a cool drink (or a loo) and your little ones can run over to the playground and grassy areas to let off some steam. Right next door are the municipal tennis courts.

The village has all the amenities you need for your holiday, including a couple of small/medium sized supermarkets, bars and cafes and a handful of restaurants.

If you love fitness, Lake Annecy has a path all around it for long peaceful walks, wobbly bike rides or a more strenuous jog... and the whole area will spoil you for choice for safe routes on your bike, down by the lake and all the way along into Annecy itself, via the converted old railway track 'voie verte'. Take a look at Annecy here.

If you like watersports, this is a fabulous place to visit.

Choose from learning to water-ski, driving a speed boat, para-gliding over the lake, renting a kayak or a pedalo, or learning to sailboard. There are some yacht sailing clubs too - not to mention the golf club of Annecy.

Take a trip to the parc de loisirs in Annecy and watch the kids jump on the trampolines, dive in the pools full of balls and bouncy castles or take the older kids to Alpinaventure to learn how to climb or mountain bike. How about some white water rafting? Or just some quiet mini-golf?

Annecy is just 20 minutes away by car and is full of lovely old back streets, canals and restaurants - just heaven for those that like window shopping!

And that's just for the Summer. The Winter brings you within short driving distances of these great ski resorts:

Le Grand Bornand - 45min

Megeve - 45min

Courcheval - 1 hour
