Chateau de Charras
About the home
This family house is set within the 13 acre grounds of the 18th century Chateau de Charras. The house itself originally formed part of the Chateau's wine store and has recently been sympathetically renovated with many original features retained - ie exposed stonework including a large stone fireplace and wooden beams. There is also a courtyard at the back of the house with furniture for outside dining. The extensive grounds are very pleasant and relaxing to walk through with stone staircases , walls and balustrades recalling a much different lifestyle from long ago. There are panoramic views across the countryside from the hill top position of the Chateau and guests can enjoy the shared use of the 15m x 6m heated swimming pool and 2 tennis courts during their stay. The Chateau is in the heart of the village of Charras which has it's own boulangerie , general store with post office and bar / restaurant all within easy walking distance.

What can I say? Absolutely wonderful. I stayed with my husband, two daughters and their husbands and 2 grandchildren 4yo and 7yo. I found myself thinking" I wonder if there's a ....." and there always was. From a garlic press to table tennis bats to logs for the wood burner! Eating round the huge family table, wandering the extensive wooded walks amongst hoards of cowslips on the Chateau estate and beyond, and eating freshly baked pains au chocolat and baguettes from the village bakery and creamy butter from the shop. I can smell them now.Welcomed by Tracy and all the other owners with such genuine warmth that included us in their annual Easter festivities of hunting chocolate eggs and catching raw eggs in a circle! Tennis on the courts, running down the lanes and woodland and drinking coffee in Brantome - what could be more relaxing? This property is set in truly unique surroundings . We will be back. Thanks Tracey. |
