Home description

Les Planes is located in the tiny hamlet of Souffrignac, surrounded by sunflower and maize fields. The friendly house benefits from a very peaceful environment with lots of local birdlife, yet is only 6km from shops, bars, markets and many superb restaurants the region is famed for. English owners live on site for advice and guidance on making the most of your stay.

Les Planes is an ideal place for relaxing family holidays. The large mature garden has its own 10 x 5m fenced pool and a huge wooden table for al fresco dining. The interior of the house is light and airy and the large farmhouse kitchen opens out onto the south facing garden.

With a family bathroom, 3 double bedrooms and a single upstairs, and a twin bedroom and shower room downstairs (and a whole host of baby equipment available) there is planty of space for 2 or more families to enjoy this superb house and all this beautiful region has to offer.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region

The Charente gets the second highest amount of sunshine in the whole of France!
Rich in history, and with glorious open countryside combined with superb cuisine, make this area extremely popular with holiday makers.
There are chateaux, vineyards, working mills, leisure lakes, prehistoric caves and ancient churches to discover.

The beautiful towns of Perigueux, Brantome with it's 11th century abbey and Aubeterre with its famed monolithic caves are all within an hours drive - for shopping, sight seeing and dining in the many pavement cafe's.

We are just 30 minutes from Angouleme, an historic walled city rich in cartoon history. Home to the National Comics and Image Centre and host to many festivals, including the vintage car rally in September, Ludoland and Gourmet Food and Wine in November and the International Comic Strip in January.

Gognac, with its world famous distilleries can be reached within an hour, and we are approximately 2 hours away from the nearest coast,Royan, with its blue flag beaches, La Palmyre Zoo and great seafood restaurants.


Angouleme / Souffrignac area

This is a truly wonderful corner of the world! Peace and tranquility abound, with little traffic on the sleepy, country lanes. Les Planes is 2km from the hamlet of Souffrignac, with it's farm museum, water mill and organic gardens. For those looking for a rural idyll, a natural paradise far from the madding crowd - look no further.
Yet there are so many things to see and do!
The house is located on the edge of the Perigord/Limousin national park on the Charente/Dordogne border - making it a perfect base for exploring both departments.

The lively market towns of Montbron, Nontron, Piegut, Marthon and La Rochefoucauld (with its stunning chateau) offer restaurants, shops, brocantes and many festivals in the summer months. Try one of the chocolatiers, or buy some Limoges pottery or perhaps some locally grown, super fresh produce from one of the many bustling markets. Visit one of the mills for walnut oil, or visit a farm shop for some foie gras or locally produced pineau.

For the active minded there are several golf courses in the area, along with horse riding, go-karting, tennis, fishing and mountain bike trails. There are organized walks, and parks and gardens open to the public.

You are never far from a river in the Charente - great for canoeing, boat trips or picnics. Nautilus, a water park with pools and slides is near Angouleme.

We have discovered an oasis, full of calm and relaxation. Time has stood still for two wonderful weeks.
