Chez LUC consists of La Maison: the main house, which is entered through an attractive courtyard into the main kitchen and dining area. The living areas are very spacious and apart from the large kitchen there is an enormous living room which has a south facing balcony overlooking the pool and surrounding countryside. In total the house is over 200m2...
... and La Petite Maison, which is part of a beautiful 18th Century "Maitre de Maison" style house with many original features. There are two large bedrooms, a large shower room and a kitchen/ living and dining area.
The house also has its own private garden.
The 10 x 5 metre in ground swimming pool is ideal for families and comes with a pool alarm.
The area around the house is tranquil and represents rural France at its best. At the same time there is plenty to do and places to visit. As many past visitors have found you will very quickly feel relaxed and away from the stress of modern day life!
The house lies on a quiet lane in the small hamlet of Rozet, a conservation area with a 12th century priory and surrounded by National Forest.
In terms of conveniences there is a boulangerie and convenience store in the nearest village and a large supermarket in nearby Villebois Lavalette.
If you wish to eat out there is an excellent and very popular Restaurant in the hamlet, and more choices in Charras, Villebois Lavalette and Mareuil.

You enter "Chez LUC" through a charming enclosed courtyard with a central fountain.
La Maison has a large, well-equipped kitchen and a huge traditional fireplace. The kitchen has a gas Aga cooker/oven for enthusiastic chefs as well as being ideal for cooking for large groups. There is a lovely view of the courtyard from the large dining table. The kitchen has an access to the garden patio and seating area which is ideal for breakfast, lunch or a barbecue dinner.
The upstairs living room and balcony is very spacious with plenty of seating and is equipped with a large TV, DVD, iPod docking station and a small library with a choice of books, boardgames and jigsaw puzzles. The balcony is the best spot in the house with fantastic views overlooking the swimming pool and the surrounding countryside.
On the ground floor there are 3 bedrooms with 2 double beds and 1 set of bunks (90 width) plus a bathroom which is also conveniently located for when you come from the swimming pool. The family bedroom has an attached shower room.
The house comes with central heating and two log burning stoves in the kitchen and living room.
La Petite Maison is entered through a hallway with original tile flooring which leads to the kitchen/ dining/ living room and upstairs to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The spacious bedrooms are on two floors and could easily sleep 7 persons but the living areas are more compact so we have restricted the number to 5 persons. The bedrooms are set up to offer flexible sleeping arrangements.
La Petite Maison does not have internet access or central heating and is not offered for rent in the winter.

The swimming pool is 10X5m and is equipped with a pool alarm system. The depth of the pool is 1m. in the shallow end and 2.5m. in the deep end. The pool area comes with 8 Sun loungers.
"La Maison" has a private patio area with table and chairs sufficient for 8 adults and "La Petite Maison" has a small patio seating area for 5 persons. The private garden at "La Petite Maison" is ideal for small children as the swimming pool can only be accessed through a gate that can be locked.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region


The Charente region has a micro climate making it the 2nd sunniest region of France. With over 2200 hours of sunshine per year it has become a popular place to visit not only in the Summer but in the Spring and Autumn also.
Chez Luc is located on the Charente/ Dordogne border The Charente is a region of vineyards and Romanesque Architecture, dominated by the beautiful River Charente. The Dordogne is known for its chateaux, churches, bastides, cave fortresses ancient villages and markets. Two interesting chateaux to visit are Bourdeilles and Mareuil as both are a short drive from Chez Luc and can easily be visited in a morning.
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne one of the "Beaux village de France" has a 12th century subterranean church dug out of rock under the castle. The village square which is the centre of activity has several restaurants, cafes and small shops. Down by the River Dronne there is a man made beach, picnic areas and canoeing.
Also within easy reach are towns such as St. Emilion, Bergerac, Cognac and Bordeaux, all famous for their wines and spirits. Cognac, the home of Hennessey, Martell, Remy Martin and many other famous vineyards & distilleries which all have visitor centres.
The vineyards of St. Emillion, Pomerol, Pauillac, Margaux, Graves and others are also an excellent day trip from Chez Luc and many Chateaux offer sampling and the opportunity to buy quality wine at a very reasonable price.
Other great days out possible from Chez Luc are Lake Jamaye - with its beach, large lake, swimming and watersports, childrens play area, fishing and cafe, Aqualand Water park, The 18 hectare La Palmyre zoo or a trip to the coast at Royan.
Futurescope near Poitiers is ideal as a stop off either on your way to or from Chez Luc as it requires an overnight stay to be fully appreciated.
All too much then just relax, lie in the sun, swim in the pool or read a book at Chez Luc!!!
The Angouleme / Combiers area
Chez Luc is set in a tranquil setting but only 10 minutes drive from many amenities, shops, restaurants and leisure activities. Rozet is a small hamlet, some 25 km from Angouleme and 20km from the picturesque river town of Brantome. There is a small but very popular restaurant in the hamlet. (booking required)
The area is In the heart of the beautiful forested countryside of the Perigord Vert which is a peaceful area with rivers and lakes for canoeing, boating and fishing. In the local villages there are markets to meander in and outdoor cafes where you can sit and watch the world go by. Local tourist offices have maps of the many signed walks and rambles through the lovely countryside. The area is peaceful rural France at its best
Places of local interest include:
Villebois Lavalette: This beautiful village with its Chateaux, Church and many local conveniences is just a short drive away. In the centre there is an old wooden covered market that dates back to the 16th century but was restored in the 19th century and is now an historic monument. The town is a small but you will find most things that you need including a large supermarket, banks, cash machines, newsagent, pharmacy, boulangerie, a tourism office, garages, doctors/dentists, tennis courts and cafes and restaurants.
Brantome nicknamed the "Venice of the Perigord" is just over 20km away. Apart from the Abbey with a claim to having one of the oldest Romanesque bell towers in France there are plenty of charming restaurants along the river Dronne as well as gentle canoeing/ kayaking to take care of any over indulgence!
Angouleme the Capital City of the Charente has an 11th Century Cathedral and an "old town" that has been well maintained. Along the narrow cobbled streets are many restaurants, galleries and boutiques. The city also hosts several festivals including the "Circuit des Ramparts" a motor racing event around the streets which is held in September and the "Angouleme International Comics festival" which attracts people from around the world.
A visit to a local market is also a "must" during your stay and there are many available close by from the small local farmers market in Mareuil to Riberac one of the largest markets in the Dordogne. Brantome and Perigeux also have weekly markets.
