An information pack provided gives details of the local area and tourist attractions.
The Pays de la Loire region
The Vendée has a microclimate which means that the area enjoys up to 2600 hours of sunshine a year. This is almost as many as the south of France and almost twice as many as London! Well-established as a tourist area you will find activities to suit all of the family. From a castle in Talmont-St-Hilaire and a tower in Moricq to a zoo in Les Sables d'Olonne there really is something for everyone. All towns have local produce markets, wonderful opportunities to try local specialities and soak up some of the friendly Vendéen atmosphere. The summer also sees the area hosting many music festivals and watersport competitions. Every four years the world famous Vendée globe race sets off from Les Sables d'Olonne and the Vendée is regularly featured in the itinerary for the Tour de France cycle race.
Situated in the southern reaches of the Loire valley, the Vendée has four main wine-producing areas : Brem-sur-Mer, Vix, Pissotte and Mareuil-sur-Lay. Visits and tastings can be arranged and most restaurants stock local wines for you to enjoy.
For history buffs l'Historial de la Vendée is the place to visit. (http://historial.vendee.fr/) Telling the long history of the area from pre-historic times to the present day there is also a simulated helicopter ride over the Vendée, exciting for visitors of all ages.
Slightly further afield are the leisure parks of Futuroscope (www.futuroscope.com) and Puy de Fou (www.puydufou.com) both 'must-sees' for the family. For bargain-hunters, Cholet has a designer outlet - Marques Avenue with many popular labels at reduced prices. (www.marquesavenue.com)
Angles is a vibrant market town with bars, shops and restaurants. During the summer there are twice-weekly markets and regular evening entertainment such as live bands, a circus, theatre productions, 'Moules Frites' (mussels and chips) evenings and outdoor dances. Angles also has a large brocante (antique shop) and on the showground there are regular car-boot and antique fairs.
La Bergerie is in Moricq, part of Angles with its own supermarket, bar and boulangerie. Also in Moricq there is a fifteenth century tower which used to be part of the sea defence for the area. Guided visits of the tower run throughout the summer.

"Relaxing, picturesque and peaceful"
Myself and partner along with our pet chihuahua stayed at the gite early July. The gite was very clean and cosy. The dog was able to run free in the enclosed, well kept garden. We were based just outside the town of Angles where there were a few shops and bars. Le tranche sur mer was 10 mins drive away, this is where we spent most of our time. The beach is beautiful and there was plenty of good resteraunts to choose from.

"One word... Perfect!"
Lovely people, lovely place, lovely location. Exactly what we were looking for, quite village location but walking distance of local town & central for driving to other towns too. Would recommend to anyone wanting a slow pace holiday to relax and unwind. Would definitely stay here again if the opportunity arises. Many thanks M & J
Thank you for reviewing your stay at La Bergerie. We're pleased that your enjoyed it so much and hope to see you again in the future.

"Great value for money Gite"
Peaceful and secluded yet close to the beech and countryside. La Tranche sur Mer is very close, a great beech with busy cafs and shops, a must is Le Phare West (might have to book) Ice cream shop opposite is ace. The beech here is simply stunning, a vast expanse. We took the opportunity to visit Ile de Re (St Martin is worth a day, not cheap but you are worth it!) I see why the Parisians favour this pretty harbour town and La Rochelle, also the Loire, the vineyards are many, we researched before we went and pleased we did, you need to identify genuine artisans so to speak, they are always pleased to explain their processes and wine making skill, some are simply commercial and un interested, all easily done from your Gite We are keen on wine, there are some interesting vineyards very close also and worth a visit too, it was an interest of mine to sample some White to see if it did indeed taste of the sea!! as it happened It was mineral tasting and did favour a match with fish Nice to get back and sit out and eat (and drink a glass of wine) the Gite is equipped for simple cooking with oven and hob, barbi on patio also The owners are on hand and helpful (English)
Thank you for reviewing your holiday. We're so happy that you enjoyed it and found the area interesting. Best wishes.

"Lovely Gite, Great Garden"
We stayed at La Bergerie late August, I would describe it as a compact gite with good facilities and an excellent garden. It's a nice area and only a short drive to the beaches and supermarkets. The owners live on site but are not intrusive but available for any issue, we only had one issue with a kettle that stopped working and was replaced within hours, so a five star service! Would recommend this Gite.

"Lovely little gite in beautiful area"
We chose this gite as we wanted a dog friendly and safe place, situated near to all the places we planned to visit in the area. It certainly ticked all the boxes helped by a week of glorious weather and the friendly welcome by the owners.

"No regrets booking this gite."
The gite was just as advertised in a quiet village right on the edge of the countryside. It is well placed for visiting La Rochelle, les Sable d'Olonne and the extensive sandy beaches around La Tranche. Cheryl and Jonathon were very helpful and gave us good tips of other places to visit and also recommended places to eat. Enjoyed evening walks from the gite with plenty of wildlife. Overall a very good holiday.

"A wonderfully comfortable gite in an idylic and convenient location."
We spent a week at La Bergerie and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was ideal for the three of us (my partner and myself and our 12 year old son). Cheryl and Jonathan were very friendly, welcoming and helpful yet not intrusive in any way. Their gite is equipped with all that you need for a comfortable stay, but perhaps the most enduring feature of the gite is it's terrific location; set in a beautiful rural french village, yet only a short 10 minute drive to the sea at a Tranche Sur Mer. We had a fantastic time and will be returning next year.

"Our lovely Gite in La Tranche"
This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and this time went back with our 5 month baby, La Bergerie is a well eqipped gite which has a lovely garden where you can relax and you can sit on the decking area to enjoy a nice meal and a glass of wine or two!! You can walk to the nearest town Angles which has a nice bar and few restaurants, also Moriq has a supermarket and a small bar very close by. Cheryl and Johnathan the owners are very friendly and always available if needed, We have booked again already for next year and cant wait to go back.

"A REAL TASTE OF FRANCE!"
A truely relaxing experience! The gite was full of French charm and well equipped. The attached decking area, with lighting, gave a lovely ambience at night. The power shower was a true bonus and the internet availabilty proved very useful. The property was attached to the owners' residence and the service provided was excellent. Being on the outskirts of a hamlet offered a lovely seclusion but ammenities were only a five minute drive away. Satisfaction is illustrated by the fact that we are already booked for next year! Excellent beaches are only ten minutes away by car. Take care with children and ensure swimming takes place in controlled zones. An ideal area for keen surfers while La Tranche Sur Mer is constantly being improved to cater for tourists.
