The Pays de la Loire region

Gites des Forges is set in a quiet lane in the pretty town of Angles in the southern Vendée, only 10 minutes from the beaches of La Tranche sur Mer. The area is famous for its good weather and summers are long and usually hot! The Vendée is the 2nd sunniest part of France after the Mediterranean.

The area is criss-crossed with canals and waterways and much of the land has been reclaimed from the sea over the centuries and there are many interesting tourist attractions to visit, including the Indian Adventure Park, The Chateau des Aventuriers with its treasure trail, the fantastic Puy du Fou theme park and the Marais Poitevin Regional Park.

The main attraction is the coastline - with miles of beaches, surrounded by pine forests with lots of picnic areas and cycle paths.

The town of Angles dates back to the 11th Century, and still has its old church and Castle tower (Moricq). There are approximately 1600 inhabitants and in the centre you will find several shops - bakeries, butcher, fishmonger, florist, banks, bars, restaurants and a twice-weekly market, plus many fêtes and festivals throughout the summer months.

The house is set in a quiet lane with a Wine Cave (cellar) next door - the owner is very friendly and may invite you in to sample the local wines!

The area is very flat, so is ideal for walking and cycling holidays and the surrounding countryside is very picturesque with many canals, rivers and reclaimed marshlands - teeming with wildlife and a haven for migrating birds.

There are over 20 miles of sandy beaches nearby where you can surf, body-board, make sand castles, sunbathe and explore the rock pools. There are also many organised events on the beaches and in the towns during the summer in La Tranche sur Mer and La Faute - with musical evenings, fireworks and street entertainment.

"Lovely gite in a lovely location. Perfect if you have children."

We really enjoyed our stay in the gite. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed and more. The town itself was lovely too and again had everything you needed. We particularly loved the wine cellar next door and the owner was very welcoming! We would definitely stay here again without a doubt.
