Further details indoors:
On the ground floor are an entrance hall, L-shaped kitchen / dining-room, sitting-room with traditional hearth and a twin bedded room and shower room with large shower cabinet, loo, basin, bidet and washing-machine. Dining table expands to sit six.
The kitchen is equipped with gas hob / electric oven, dishwasher, fridge and marble sink and worktops and ample cupboard space.
There is an additional fridge / freezer in a separate small room.
Double doors lead from the kitchen / dining-room to the terrace.
On the first floor, reached via a traditional internal wooden staircase, there is an open space with easy chairs and sofa, bookcase, stereo player, video player and wood-burning stove; a very spacious twin-bedded (can be made into double) room, with space for a third bed or cot, a bathroom with bath, loo, bidet and basin, loggia and a further twin-bedded room.
The terrace is equipped with table and chairs for al fresco living. It commands outstanding views and is canopied with vines. There are electric lanterns for use after dark.
The floors are of stone reclaimed from the house and reclaimed tiles. The ceilings are traditional with beams and rafters, mainly the originals and tiles / wood.
The lighting is a mixture of 12V lights and traditional lanterns and antique fittings.
There are kelims and rugs on the floors and traditional antique furniture.
Further details outdoors:
There are 4 acres of land of which one acre is woodland. The rest consists of meadow and scattered trees and shrubs, including many wild roses and olive trees.
Close to the house the grounds are more cultivated with roses, fruit trees, vines over the pergola on the terrace and other shrubs and plants. Guests are welcome to any fruit in season.
The land and garden round the house and pool are cared for by a gardener and there is an automatic irrigation system.
On the south side of the house the hillside was used for terraced farming.
The pool is on the second terrace down. It is 10m x 5.5m and of uniform depth (about shoulder height on an adult). It is beautifully secluded with a paved area for sunbathing. There is a separate changing area. It is approached by shallow steps from the house.
The water is purified by an ozone system. At intervals the water gains further aeration by tumbling in a cascade on the valley side of the pool, giving the sound of a waterfall when the pump is in operation.

Everything about our stay at Meaccino was exactly what we had hoped for - absolute peace, a beautiful house and garden with simple but very elegant accommodation, stunning views and a lovely pool overlooking glorious hillside. The owner was especially helpful to us as we were travelling with four children by public transport - taking care to ensure our stay wasn't tricky without a car. A very kind and unexpected surprise of delicious supplies also greeted us on our arrival, supplementing our own supplies from the village shop, which we bought before getting a large local taxi to the house. Being completely self contained, and enjoying not needing to go anywhere other than for local walks, we had a very lazy and relaxing stay. We would certainly recommend Meaccino to other intrepid car-less visitors who are seeking a beautiful haven away from it all, but also to those who wish to explore all that the wider area has to offer. |
