Dar Zette is a house in the heart of the bustling medina, yet once inside the house, the atmosphere is one of complete calm and tranquility with the added advantage of a large pretty courtyard complete with olive tree and fountain. Perfectly situated for the busy souks selling spices, carpets, jewelled slippers &Thuya wood boxes with cafes and restaurants nearby and the wide sandy beach of Essaouira only a minute away. Surrounding the open courtyard on two sides, the house offers light and peace. The wide folding doors of the salon allow the ground floor rooms and courtyard to become as one – wonderful by candlelight in the evening. Built on 4 floors, the house allows much privacy for reading and sunbathing. Kilim covered armchairs, hand-painted furniture, old chandeliers and antique rugs throughout, Dar Zette has it all. .

Fouad, our friend and agent, can arrange for you to be met at the airport and taken by taxi (£40 for 4 persons) to Essaouira where he will meet you to take you to the house. He will be available throughout your stay for any queries you may have and he can also take you on a guided tour around the souk. Sadir, our lovely maid, can make you breakfast and dinner on request and it can also be arranged for her to take you food shopping in the souk and then show you how to make the famous Moroccan tagine dish.
The Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz Region
The climate is semi-tropical staying warm and balmy throughout the winter and a constant breeze prevents the temperature from being unbearably hot in the summer.
Essaouira offers something for everyone. The beach is stunningly wide and is so long that you can walk along it for most of a day. The shore is a magnet for kite surfers from around the world and indeed the world championships are hels here.
The medina itself is a UNESCO world heritage listed city. Essaouira has a relaxed laid-back atmosphere where you can enjoy the hubub of the souk, the bustle of the busy port with its fish market, the romance of a walk along the ramparts at sunset or exploring the streets and hidden passageways of this special town.

We recently enjoyed our second stay at Dar Zette. The place is peaceful, beautifully decorated, stunningly spacious and simply magical – after a day in Essaouira you can step off the bustling street into absolute calm either in the courtyard, the living room or one of the terraces.
The people looking after us at Dar Zette were wonderful, too. Foued was extremely helpful and was available whenever we needed him by phone or in person – most importantly he let us in on cultural customs of how to deal with tradesmen. Sadya kept the place lovely and cooked a fabulous tagine with us on our “night in”. The rest of the time we enjoyed the town's varied and exceptional restaurants. Not much more to say really, the best value for money we have experienced yet in Morocco and we will be back!

"Can't wait to go back!"
After the heat and bustle of Marrakech, it was a relief to arrive at Dar Zette. A rooftop for sunlovers but wonderfully cool shade and a refreshing breeze on the balcony and in the comfortable rooms so all we needed for a relaxing week. Lots of places to eat out within the colourful medina and loads of bargains in the souk.

"A beautiful oasis of calm - ideal for relaxation"
We couldn't beleive our eyes when we came through the door into this wonderful courtyard and house. So light and many hidden areas to sneak away and read. Full of wonderful artefacts and beautifuuly laid out without being stuffy. Sadir who cooked for us when asked was full of smiles and Fouedd who met us from the taxi with perfect English was always on hand to organze trips and sort any problems. The six of us have already booked to come again next year - we can't recommend it highly enough.

"The perfect escape"
We were very spoilt from the moment we arrived. We flew in from Bristol, arrived 7pm in Marrakech. Penny had organised our collection and Foued met us at the Medina gates a few hours later. We had preordered dinner and what a lovely surprise. Sadiya had left a beautiful meal for us which remains unsurpassed in our entire trip. The riad is beautiful and a beautiful place to spend quiet time out from the hustle and bustle of all the shops and busy streets just outside. Would highly recommend Dar Zette!
