Northern Holland region

North Holland is a broad peninsula for the most part, located between the North Sea, Markermeer and the IJsselmeer. More than half of the province consists of reclaimed polder land situated below sea level.

North Holland has four municipalities with 100,000 or more inhabitants. They are, in order of size, Amsterdam (in terms of population this is also the largest municipality in the Netherlands), Haarlem, Zaanstad, and Haarlemmermeer. Another seven municipalities have a population between 50,000 and 100,000 inhabitants (i.e. Hilversum, Amstelveen, Purmerend, Hoorn, Velsen, Alkmaar, and Heerhugowaard.) The island of Texel is also part of North Holland.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a very well-known city and one of the gates to Europe. Many tourists fly into Amsterdam, stay a couple of days here, and then extend their trip to other cities in Europe. As they fly back home from Amsterdam, some stay a couple of extra days here, just to relax, and see and do what they didn't on the first part of their trip. Of course, you can do it the other way around too: going first to other capitals, and then stay a couple of days in Amsterdam.

Because Amsterdam organises a great number of congresses and other big events during the whole year, we host also many businessmen, musicians, dancers and artists in general. We have great experience with that, so you are in good hands too.

Maybe it's interesting to know how Amsterdam can influence your vacation or business trip - and what to expect from our city and the people.

Amsterdam is a very small city, although there is so much to see. You can walk anywhere in the centre – and by bicycle or boat you'll see a different perspective of everything. Not talking about staying in a houseboat: it's really a great experience (and we have many to offer). Amsterdam is definitely a fun and very friendly capital - and everybody speaks good English! In which other city in Europe can you get that all?

You'll find here an extensive gradient of all: to start with the flowers and the variety of its colours, the tulips and the countless sorts of bulb plants. Just walking on the streets, time will take you on a trip, as history blends it's marks with the future: from architecture to technology; from the big master artists from the past, like Van Gogh and Rembrandt, to the artists who live now here and are producing amazing things – and you can see them working in their own atelier!

Music, all sort of concerts (inclusive on the water !), dance, ballet, theatres, comedy, the Dutch life style, open markets, shopping's, excellent restaurants from all kinds of cuisines, night life, the gay life, coffee shops… There is simply so much to choose, to see and to experience.

But if you prefer just to do nothing, Amsterdam is still a very peaceful and safe place to be!

Welcome to our city :-)

Although 5 minutes from Leidseplein and The Jordaan, in the city centre, it is located in a very leafy, canal surrounded and quiet, serene area. You will be staying near the Stadsschouwburg Theatre, Paradiso, Melkweg, trams that run from central station and buses to the airport - and also just

10 min stroll to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Vondelpark, supermarkets, open markets, fine shopping and excellent restaurants!
