'In the Vine' is a stylish, authentic and very spacious apartment located on one of the canals in the centre of Amsterdam. It is a perfect base from which to explore the city. It is situated in a building that dates from 1679 and can house five people. Apart from a large living area and bedroom there is a well equipped kitchen, a spacious bathroom and two separate toilets. There is a small roof terrace where you can sit outside to enjoy a cup of tea or drinks in the late afternoon sun. On the other side of the roof terrace, in typical Amsterdam style, is a rear annex, that contains two smaller bedrooms. The apartment has many beautiful details like a 'Trompe l'oeil' wall painting and the original wooden beams are still intact.

The large living area (540 square feet) overlooks the splendid Singel Canal. It has comfortable sofa’s, a large table that can seat eight and a TV and a DVD player. Both Wifi and plug-in-internet are available here. Adjacent to the living area is a modern kitchen with all the usual amenities including teabags and Nespresso capsules.

The master bedroom is on the 2nd floor of he apartment. It has twin beds, a TV and a beautiful view of the canal. There is a small mezzanine area above, which can be used as a study. The bathroom is spacious and luxurious with two separate wash basins, a shower and a bath. A washing machine and dryer are also available.

In between the apartment and the rear annex is a private roof terrace where you can sit outside in a typical Amsterdam setting. This is an ideal place to catch the evening sun and the place for smokers to enjoy a cigarette.

The rear annex can be reached by crossing the roof terrace. It is 375 square feet and consists of two rooms. The attic room has a charming Amsterdam feel. If five people are using the apartment three of them can sleep here. It also has its own wash basin and another toilet.

The apartment is located on one of Amsterdam’s striking canals just 220 yards away from the floating flower market and the Spui, in the heart of the old city centre. The area is one of the most authentic parts of Amsterdam. The Jordaan with its attractive small shops and buzzing culture is just three bridges away. The apartment is right around the corner of the ‘Negen Straatjes’ (nine little streets), the up-and-coming shopping area of Amsterdam with a wide variety of nice boutiques, good cafes and places to find old handicrafts. Special events also often take place here. The Van Gogh museum, the recently renovated Stedelijk Museum (modern art) and the world famous Rijksmuseum with its masterpieces by Rembrandt and Vermeer are all located nearby. If you are in Amsterdam you can do what the locals do and hop on the tram or flag down a boat taxi to get you there.

Major facilities like the Central station and the Central Post Office are close by. You will find many restaurants in the area that are well worth a visit and the Anne Frank House is just a five minute walk away.

Northern Holland region

It's just a 10 kilometer drive out of Amsterdam and you are in the rural and picturesque Waterland. Special attractions here are the dikes, the peatlands, the unique monuments, the open landscape, the small and large lakes and the old villages. Volendam, Broek in Waterland and Marken have the charm and atmosphere of ancient Holland. Get the feel by bike or canoe and rest on one of the lovely terraces near the water.

Also close, about 15 kilometers away, is the Zaanse Schans. One of Holland's top touristic destinations. There are six windmills along the Zaan:two oil mills, a mustard mill, a paint mill and two saw mills. A visit to a working industrial mill will be a nice experience. A number of traditional Dutch crafts are practised at the Zaanse Schans. There are demonstrations of clog-making, Delftware painting, pewter-casting and cheese-making in a variety of historic Zaanse warehouses and barns.

For people who love flowers the Keukenhof is a must-go. The park is only open in spring, is 32 hectares wide and has 15 kilometres of foothpaths. It filled with blooming tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and other spring bulbs. It is a lovely, relaxing experience to visit.

Also interesting is the cheesemarket in Alkmaar starting in April. It takes place every friday from 10 am until 12.30 pm on the Waagplein.Thousands of visitors from all over the world visit the particular spectacle which includes a market filled with cheese and hauling cheese carriers. The cheese market has taken place on the Waagplein in Alkmaar since 1593.

For those who are interested in the fight of the Dutch against the water it is interesting to visit the Afsluitdijk.

It is a spectacular dike and causeway, constructed between 1927 and 1933 and running from the North Holland province to the Friesland province, over a length of 32 kilometres. It damms off the Zuiderzee, a salt water inlet of the North Sea turning it into the fresh water lake of the IJsselmeer.

Amsterdam is the cultural capital of Holland. It’s got wonderful museums, amazing architecture, and is the home to Ajax. It’s got a buzzing culture that is interesting to people of all ages. There are nice boutiques, good cafe’s and places to find nice handycrafts.

This year is a festive year since the canals exist four hundred years. The town has many special events this year to celebrate that.

Dear guest, thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed In the Vine and I am sorry about the noise that disturbed your stay. The bridge that is being built is in the final stage and one can't tell which is the noisy part. They are constructing the street now and the bridge and surroundings will be ready in a few days, so it will be done soon. We hope to welcome you another less noisy time! best wishes, Ineke

"Wonderful canal house--gave our family the real Amsterdam experience"

Easy, pleasant, efficent contact with owner Ineke and her daughter.
Welcome bottle of wine a nice touch.
House warm, comfortable and spacious with all that one needed in a holiday home.
Typical steep stairs not for the faint hearted
Location ideal and a charming part of city with good access to rail/trams and tourist sights.
loved the breakfast restaurant directly across the canal.
We were not affected other than visually by construction of new bridge outside the door as holidays and no work in progress.
good Wifi access
Wish we could have stayed for longer.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed Amsterdam and 'In the Vine'. We hope we can welcome you another time.
