This is a rare opportunity to rent an entire traditional Dutch house with canal views. The property is a Rijks monument building, built in 1740, right in the world heritage listed premier canal district of Central Amsterdam.

It adjoins the famous "De negen straatjes" (9 Little Streets) shopping area, full of trendy boutique shops, bars and restraurants run by local entreprenuers.

A supermarket and tram stop to Central Station and all the tourist attractions are a very short stroll away (less than 100 metres!)

The windows at the front on each level give a wonderful view over the Prinsengracht canal and the famous Pulitzer hotel (the setting for the Oceans 12 movie). If you are here in August, you may see and hear from the house the famous Prinsengracht concert, which is held each year in front of the Pulitzer hotel.

Within 50m you can walk to Anne Frank House and the famous Westerkerk, its steeple is the highest point in Amsterdam, and you can hear the bells toll melodically during the day.

"Perfect City Experience"

Rented this property for a long weekend with my family. Terrific location for everything in Amsterdam that a family would need - Anne Frank House, Museums, canals, restaurants etc. Lovely atmospheric … More

"Great location"

Fabulous house in the heart of Amsterdam. The location is perfect to explore by foot, bicycle, tour bus, train or boat. Access to all is within a block or two. Wonderful restaurants are near by and so is a grocery store. The full kitchen was wonderful to have as we enjoyed coffee (the coffee machine is excellent!) and breakfast in the morning and some home made dinners which, for us, was a nice break from restaurants. We made good use of the bicycles that you are allowed to use when you stay at the house (excellent bikes, complete with bike locks and carriers for purchases) and that was a wonderful perk! One tip: if you are not used to church bells throughout the night, bring ear plugs and/or a white noise machine. In other places in Europe, the church bells cease throughout the night but Westerkerk in Amsterdam (a block and a bit away from the house) chimes throughout the night (every 15 min, 1/2 hour and on the hour).

"Great place in a brilliant location would return tomorrow"

We just loved this former Merchants House, which was homely and offered every facility you could want. It was a great place to return to after walking around Amsterdam all day. The kitchen is has every appliance, including a great coffee machine. The bathroom is luxurious. The beds very comfortable and the first floor lounge a great space to sit and read or look out on the constant changing character of the adjoining canal.

The location is absolutely brilliant being only a couple of hundred m from the Westerkek with its wonderful carillon. Do climb the tower. All the major Museums and galleries are within easy walking distance and it was a constant joy to walk along and cross-cross the canals, taking extreme care to lookout for the bikes! It appears chaotic but all seems to work, as the bikers are not your Lycra clad boy racers, but anyone from 8 to 80 on sensible bikes riding at sensible speeds!!

Most of the Museums have had major refurbishments in recent years and cater brilliantly for children. The Amsterdam Museum, Maritime Museum, and Nemo, and Van Gough Museum were outstanding in this respect. There were local supermarkets which were great for self-catering, and a very good ice-cream shop for the after diner walk and desert. As you can gather we cannot recommend the house, its location or Amsterdam more highly.

"most amazing week in Amsterdam"

We had the most amazing week in Amsterdam. We were met as planned. He was very helpful with explaining the set up & orientating us in the neighbourhood . We adored the house. The stairs are a little scary until you get used to them. We had everything to make us comfortable & feel at home, even down to the baby highchair which was very useful. It was so nice to wake up to Illy coffee from the Jura machine. The house is in such a great position so close to everything. We just walked & walked. We would recommend it to all our friends.
