The Northern Holland / North Holland region
Amsterdam is the main city located the province of North Holland. Haarlem, Alkmaar, Monnikedam, Edam, Vollendam are a couple of historic and charming cities that are well worth a visit. There is much verdant countryside with many waterways such as the Ijsel Lake, and a sandy beach of about 100 km. along the North Sea coast with beautiful dunes. The beach and lake are only a 20 minute train or bike ride from Amsterdam.
Amsterdam area
Amsterdam is a city with much to offer. With its canal district and patrician villas from the 17ht century still quite intact it is a pleasure just to walk around. There are wonderful churches and public squares and sidewalk cafes, the kind of thing that makes old European cities so pleasurable to visit. Amsterdam also has more than 50 galleries as well as internationally renowned museums such as the Van Gogh museum, the Rijks Museum and the Municipal Museum. Cafes and restaurants, great shopping and nightlife are more things on offer. It is also a city with many outdoor markets: flea markets, (organic) vegetable markets, fish markets, and on and on. All great run to wander around on. And who could forget the well-known Anne Frank House. All of this and more is within easy reach of the apartment, reachable on foot or by public transport. Taxis are although not cheap still readily available. Or for the more adventurous, you can rent a bike!
How to get there
From the Amsterdam airport a taxi will take 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Otherwise there is a good train connection to the Central Train Station. From the Central Train Station one can take a 5-minute taxi ride or the 13 or 17 tram and numerous busses. The apartment is 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
