The North Wales / Snowdonia / Anglesey region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. Snowdonia National Park, situated in North Wales, boasts breathtaking mountain scenery, crystal clear lakes and cascading waterfalls. Climb Snowdon, which at 1085m is Wales’ highest mountain, or travel to the summit in style on the charming Mountain Railway. Alternatively, why not sample the beautiful green valley of Llangollen by steam train or from a leisurely horse-drawn canal boat. In July, the annual Llangollen Eisteddfod transforms the town into a unique centre of international music and dance, attracting musicians and singers from across the globe. You could also explore the beautiful coastline, safe sandy beaches and watersports of the Lleyn Peninsula, as well as Colwyn Bay, historic Conwy, Victorian Llandudno or the Isle of Anglesey on the north coast. To the south, there’s the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park, a haven of rugged moorland, forests and mountains that’s just perfect for nature lovers and walkers. Finally, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is renowned for its wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, superb beaches and as the home of Britain’s smallest city, the City of St David’s.
Amlwch / Llaneilian area
Set close to the cliffs of Point Lynas and the little bay of Porth Eilian, this scattered, rural village on the beautiful north coast of Anglesey is situated in stunning countryside, perfect for scenic walks and cycle rides. The town is best known for its lighthouse, which was built in 1835, and for its small shingle and sand beach. Sheltered by cliffs and headland, the beach is the perfect spot for swimming, boating, fishing and other water sports. The old port of Amlwch is just two miles to the west and claims the to be the most northerly town in Wales whilst nearby Parys Mountain offers visitors the chance to enjoy the Copper Mine Trail Walk amidst the old ruins of what was the world's largest copper mine during the 18th Century. The port attached to the town is dates as far back as medieval times. For those interested in history, the town of Beaumaris offers a 13th Century moated castle and museums as well as excellent shops, pubs and restaurants.
