Home description
Beautiful restored farmhouse, part of an ancient and substantial landed property, abt. 20 km south of the lovely Umbrian town of Todi. Restaurant/Pizzeria and supermarket 300 meters far away. The speedway E45 Terni-Perugia is 12 Km far away. The villa is ideal for families with young children, it has a completeley fenched garden and it is possible to close the access to the swimming pool. The pool is situated between the garden of Villa Vigna and the owner's villa and it is sometimes also used by the owners. From the pool you have a panoramic view over the countryside and hills. Peaceful position. It's possible to purchase directly from the owner olive oil and wine. 3 km away it is possible to visit an extremely rare example of a fossil forest.

The Umbria region
In Umbria, a region that has gained a name for being the green heart of Italy, tourism is growing because of the unfamiliar harmony between nature, antiquities, historic centres (the landscape is dotted with many picturesque medieval villages) and culture. In the region immigrants from other countries of the European Union are also settling or buying second homes. The quiet of the countryside, good provisions and an inimitable cuisine are the great draw. Rents for houses are lower in comparison with Tuscany. Main cities to visit: Perugia, Orvieto, Spoleto, Assisi, Todi, Gubbio but there are also many charming little towns and villages.
From southern Umbria, in day trips, it also possible to visit Rome (we advice to go by train) and other charming little towns of northern Lazio (Tuscania, Tarquinia, Bagnaia, Civita di Bagnoreggio and the lakes of Bolsena, Bracciano and Vico) or southern Tuscany (Siena, Montepulciano, Cortona, ….).
From northern Umbria, in day/half day trips, it also possible to visit Florence, Siena and many other little towns and villages of southern/central Tuscany.
Amelia / Montecastrilli area
It forms an ideal starting point for enjoying the peace of the surrounding hill and mountain landscape and on the other hand making at least 40 trips by car to sparkling towns like Todi, Orvieto, Narni, Spoleto, Viterbo (15 to 40 min.) or Perugia, Gubbio, Spello, Assisi, Tuscania and Tarquinia on the coast with a magnificent little museum of Etruscan art and Etruscan tombs with 2,300-year-old frescos (60-75 min.) or somewhat farther north the Etruscan ruins at Volci. You can also easily visit places in the southern part of Tuscany by car such as Siena, San Geminiano, Pienza, Cortona, Senalunga, etc.
Many tourists visit Rome once or more times, by car or by train from the station of Terni. In the more immediate surroundings there are numerous charming little villages - of medieval origin - which are increasingly being renovated for weekend and summer tourism: San Restituta, Civita di Bagnoreggio, Lugnano, Stroncone, Labro (max. 40 min), Montefranco, Arrone, etc. Hard by also lie the vast ruins of the Roman city of Carsulae.
And we must not forget the mountains with some splendid woods, e.g. Terminillo (up to 2000 metres by car). In 30 to 60 minutes you can also reach the shimmering lakes of Bracciano, Vigo, Piediluco and Bolsena as well as Trasimeno with boat trips on these last 2 lakes to the islands.
How to get there
To reach Umbria, if you don’t come with your own car, we advice to take a flight to Rome (airport Fiumicino/Leonardo da Vinci or Ciampino for low cost flight such as Ryanair, Easyjet, ….), Florence, Pisa or Perugia. On the airports you can rent a car (see http://www.autoeurope.ie/booking/car.cfm?pucode=IT&aff=CASAMERINAIE if you want to book online)
New Ryanair flights London Stansted - Perugia from December 2006
