Home description
With olive trees all around and a large terrace surrounded by roses and peonies, this cottage, the latest to be restored on the property, is the most modern. Living room with antique furniture, table for 4, sofa bed, fireplace and sliding door windows, which open onto the terrace. Bedroom with double bed, double wardrobe and bathroom en suite. The kitchen is small but functional. Outside terrace with eating facilities. Roseto is part of La Fontana, a rustic Umbrian Farmhouse with a main house and three small cottages that are rented weekly. The seven acres of the property, bought by April Davis more than 20 years ago, include the olive grove, the orchard and the garden, a mixture of Mediterranean and English taste with a variety of flowering shrubs and trees, cypresses and oaks.

The Umbria region
La Fontana is situated in the Amerino county, just on the Lazio/Umbria border. There are few areas in the world with so many cultural, archaeological and architectural sites of interest. Amelia is the ideal starting point for discovering a delightful countryside without the inconvenience of mass tourism.
LAZIO Everyone know Rome but Lazio has much to offer to the enterprising visitor. We recommend a visit to Viterbo, Tuscania, Tarquinia, Villa Lante at Bagnaia, Caprarola and the abandoned town of Civita di Bagnoreggio. There are numerous lakes nearby: Bracciano, Bolsena and Vico while the sea is only one hour by car, with some very nice beaches.
UMBRIA In Umbria, a region that has gained a name for being the green heart of Italy, tourism is growing because of the natural beauties, the antiquities and the historic centres of the region. The quiet countryside, good wine and an inimitable cuisine are a pleasant extra. Main cities to visit: Perugia, Orvieto, Spoleto, Assisi, Todi, but there are also many charming little towns and villages such as Narni, Lugnano in Teverina, Ferentillo, Stroncone, Labro and Norcia that are well worth a visit. Hard by also lie the vast ruins of the Roman city of Carsulae. Very close to Terni are the beautiful waterfalls of Marmore.
Amelia area
Amelia is sited on rolling hills, bordered on the north by thick woods and on the south by olive groves and vineyards. The walls originate from the pre-Etruscan period (700 BC) while the town has maintained its medieval plan without significant change in centuries. From the Roman period the most striking vestiges are the ancient cisterns and the statue of Germanico.
How to get there
Amelia is 90km from Rome on the A1 motorway. Fly to Rome Fiumicino with regular flights or Ciampino with low cost flights such as Ryanair, etc. Other airports in Florence, Pisa or Perugia. Car rentals in all airports. From Rome drive on the A1 north to Florence, exit at Orte (approx. km60 from Roma Nord) take the E45 toTerni/Perugia (on the right when you come out of the autostrada at Orte) and after approx km10/12 exit at Amelia. Follow signs to Amelia (km7) and you will see the ancient walls of the old town and the main gate of Amelia on your right hand side turn to the left on the road to GIOVE. After 700/800 metres, just after the Carabinieri on your right, you will see a turn to the left that indicates Orte, Take it and then turn immediately to the right at the new round about and again immediately to the left, down a short road that goes downhill. You will see some modern houses that you have to keep to your left once you are down, follow the road to the end then turn left again. You will see a single Cyprus tree and a small country road that goes down the hill. That is your road! We are at the very end of this road.
