The Umbria region
The property is situated on the Lazio/Umbria border. There are few areas in the world with so many cultural, archaeological and architectural sites of interest as the Italian regions of Lazio and Umbria.
LAZIO Everyone know Rome but in the region Lazio there is much more to see. And then Lazio is also flanked on the west by the Mediterranean Sea with its crystal clear colours and numerous islands and in the east by the Apennine mountain ranges, well over 2000 metres. In Lazio nature and culture come together in every way. It is too little known that Lazio is also a region with various splendid lakes. The lakes of Bracciano, Bolsena, Vico and Castelgandolfo, to name the most important.
UMBRIA In Umbria, a region that has gained a name for being the green heart of Italy, tourism is growing because of the unfamiliar harmony between nature, antiquities, historic centres (the landscape is dotted with many picturesque medieval villages) and culture. In the region immigrants from other countries of the European Union are also settling or buying second homes. The quiet of the countryside, good provisions and an inimitable cuisine are the great draw. Rents for houses are lower in comparison with Tuscany. Main cities to visit: Perugia, Orvieto, Spoleto, Assisi, Todi, Gubbio but there are also many charming little towns and villages.
Amelia area
The house is situated around 6 kms from Amelia (all the shops you need are available in Amelia). It forms an ideal starting point for enjoying the peace of the surrounding hill and mountain landscape and on the other hand making at least 40 trips by car to sparkling towns like Todi, Orvieto, Narni, Spoleto, Viterbo (15 to 40 min.) or Perugia, Gubbio, Spello, Assisi, Tuscania and Tarquinia on the coast with a magnificent little museum of Etruscan art and Etruscan tombs with 2,300-year-old frescos (60-75 min.) or somewhat farther north the Etruscan ruins at Volci. You can also easily visit places in the southern part of Tuscany by car such as Siena, San Geminiano, Pienza, Cortona, Senalunga, etc.
Many tourists visit Rome once or more times from Amelia, by car or by train from the stations Narni-Amelia or Orte. In the more immediate surroundings there are numerous charming little houseges - of medieval origin - which are increasingly being renovated for weekend and summer tourism: San Restituta, Civita di Bagnoreggio, Lugnano, Stroncone, Labro (max. 40 min), Montefranco, Arrone, etc. Hard by also lie the vast ruins of the Roman city of Carsulae.
How to get there
If you come by airplane the nearest airports are at Rome, the city has 2 airports: Fiumicino/Leonardo da Vinci & Ciampino (for low cost flights such as Ryanair, Easyjet). At the airports car rentals available (see www.Herzt.com, www.Avis.com if you want to book online). New Ryanair flights London Stansted - Perugia from December 2006
