It is a beautifully presented property combining the best of traditional and modern features. It includes a porch, lovely spacious sitting room, dining kitchen, utility room with WC and washbasin, 3 bedrooms and a luxury bathroom with walk-in shower and Victorian roll top bath. At the moment, the third bedroom is used as an extra sitting/quiet/reading room.

There is a living flame gas fire in the living room, gas central heating and under-floor heating in the bathroom. The cottage is well furnished and the kitchen well equipped to include fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. It is much loved by the owner and has a warm, friendly atmosphere. It provides the ideal place to relax after a hard day on the fells or the ideal retreat for those who want to enjoy a quiet relaxing holiday.

Old Stones Cottage is warm and cosy in winter providing the perfect venue for a winter break.

Outside to the rear is a small yard/patio area which is perfect for alfresco dining and safely enclosed for your dogs.

A parking permit is available for unlimited on-street parking. A parking permit can also be bought from local car parks which is transferable between many of the car parks in South Lakeland. This costs £15 for 3 days or £30 per week and the owner will refund the cost of this.

The cottage is maintained by the owner who is a keen walker, lives in and loves the Lake District and is sympathetic to the needs of dog owners and their pets. Dogs are welcome and two medium sized dog beds are provided together with dog towels and feeding bowls..

The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District is home to some of the most stunning scenery, not only in England but in the world. The majestic fells, beautiful lakes, picturesque valleys and native woodland provide the perfect holiday destination for all. Whether you want a quiet retreat, an activity holiday (there are numerous available including fell walking, climbing, sailing, birdwatching, painting, photography) or a simple family holiday, you will find it here. Many artists and writers have been and still are inspired by this beautiful area and the Lake District has been home to some of the world's greatest poets such as Wordsworth, Coleridge, Southey and Shelley so its cultural roots go deep.

Ambleside

Ambleside is a wonderful village with a variety of highly regarded restaurants and traditional Lakeland inns, many of which are dog-friendly. It is an ideal centre for climbing, walking and cycling holidays and is surrounded by beautiful Lakeland fells. There are a wide variety of walks available ranging from gentle low level walks to more serious high level walks suited to more experienced walkers. Those who enjoy water sports will find many activities on Lake Windermere. There is easy access to Grasmere, Langdale, Hawkshead, Coniston and Keswick.

Ambleside is a great place for a winter break when it is a little quieter but still "alive and vibrant". The snow capped fells provide great inspiration for walkers and there are lots of accessible lower routes. During the festive season, it is especially warm and welcoming with its beautiful Christmas lights.

"Great location, lovely cottage"

We enjoyed the central location in Ambleside and the cottage had all new modern aminities. Everything was nice and clean. The kitchen and bathroom were particularly lovely.Bedrooms and bedding were really nice. Parking was made easy as there was a free parking permit for the street available. The owner was extremely helpful and kind leaving treats for humans and dog. We would be most happy to return and stay in The Old Stones cottage.

Thanks for those kind words. You were great guests too. You left it extremely clean and tidy!

"Nice cosy cottage in central location"

What we liked about the cottage:Welcome tray with both human and doggie treats!Plenty of dog blankets, etcUnderfloor heating in bathroomPlenty of utensils, cutlery, etc. What we didn't like:Even w… More

Sorry about the bannister ropes. They had been pulled off by a child just before your visit and temporarily repaired but I didn't want to take any risks. The lower one has now been replaced with a normal bannister and the upper one repaired. Similarly the lock on the kitchen door has never caused trouble before but has been looked at. As regards the mattress protector, I have not had any other complaints. I'm afraid I can't do much about the parking since it is always difficult in Ambleside at peak times. I do warn people though and give details of how to obtain cheaper parking permits for the car parks and free street parking. Other quests seem have managed without too much problem.
