The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District National Park is one of the most beautiful areas in England - at any time of year. The Lakes and fells offer breathtaking scenery. Get away from the bustling villages, which are lovely to return to for shopping and sampling local food at the end of the day. The area is ideal for families and walking groups, offering all levels of walking from gentle strolls along the river or lakeside, to extreme climbs.

Restaurants, cafes and tea shops abound in the towns and villages, the perfect place to relax and unwind at the end of the day

The area is famed for sheep rearing, the local breed being the Herdwick, the wool of which is used amongst other things in carpets and loft insulation. The local lamb is truly delicous

There are so many places of interest in the area that you will want to return again and again. The lakes offer boat trips and boat hire. There are numerous National Trust and other properties to visit. Play golf or tennis. Swim at a Leisure Centre

Or why not just relax for part of your holiday, enjoying the fabulous garden and a barbecue

Garside's butcher in Ambleside is recommended as is Matthew's Bistro

Ambleside

The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, covers a large area with many lakes and low and high fells

Winderemere, Bowness on Winderemere, Grizedale Forest, Grasmere, Hawkshead and Coniston are all within a few miles of Ambleside, offering visitors varied and interesting galleries, museums and visitor attractions.

Kendal is he nearest larger town.

There are National Trust properties in the area, together with other houses and gardens to visit.

There are cycle routes on the fells as well as walks too numerous to mention here

Winderemere is home to Lakeland's main store and also to Booths splendid supermarket

Thank you for your lovely comments. So pleased you enjoyed the cottage and felt at home. We hope to see you again.

As a point of interest, it is only one original cottage which has been extended into the adjoining barn, providing the additional ground floor bedrooms, ground floor shower room and first floor Studio.

As you say, lots of cosy places to hide away!

Seathwaite Cottage is in a lovely location, approx 10 min walk downhill to Ambleside village, but 20 min way back as very steep hill. A bit of a struggle with a pushchair. The Cottage is surrounded … More
