The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

Coniston truly has a great selection of activities ranging from outdoor sports to attractions. There are plenty of walks to choose from that range in difficulty that take in the beautiful scenery that can be found here making Coniston a walker's paradise. There are also a couple of outdoor activity groups that offer lessons and experience with many different types of sport including gorge scrambling, raft building and even abseiling down a waterfall! Coniston is home to some great, unusual types of activities that provide a unique experience to try! For those who prefer something a little less fast pace, Coniston is home to some brilliant attractions including The Hill Top House and the Beatrix Potter Gallery which are perfect for the whole family to learn the stories and life history of this famous author or how about taking a trip to the John Ruskin Museum to delve into the history of the village. Grizedale Forest is also located nearby to Coniston and provides a further place to explore with fantastic walks, cycling routes and other trails where beautiful wildlife can be seen. Grizedale Forest is also home to Go Ape – perfect for those wanting to try something a little bit different!
