Above Stock is a two floor apartment over an interesting gift and accessories shop. It has its own stepped entrance from a picturesque footpath. It sleeps four in one king-size double and one twin room. There is also space for a cot in a small separate room. There is full central heating.
The apartment is newly decorated and well furnished. Accommodation downstairs consists of a spacious lounge/dining room with beamed ceiling, a well equipped kitchen, and a small room which can be used for a cot or for outdoor gear storage.
The kitchen has an electric oven, microwave, dish washer, washing machine, fridge and freezer. In the lounge there is a good selection of books, a TV and a DVD player.
The apartment is ideally placed in the town centre, just a step away from all amenities. There is a good view across the town to the fell beyond. Many walks, both easy or strenuous, start from the door. Parking is available in the quiet streets nearby or public car park (car park permit supplied).
The owners live nearby and are normally available in the event of any difficulties.

Cot available on request. Hand towels are provided for all basins, and also bath towels on request for guests who are travelling from abroad or by public transport.

An annual car park permit allows you to leave your car all day and overnight in the Rydal Road car park only 300 yards away. When you arrive you can leave your car outside Above Stock for loading and unloading before parking it in the car park.
The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District is home to some of England's most beautiful scenery, with many stunning lake and fell views, ever popular with those wanting tranquility or inspiration. Indeed, both Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth found much of their inspiration in the region.
The Lake District is also ideally suited to to fulfil the needs of anyone who enjoys outdoor activities of any kind. The scenery can be enjoyed equally by walking, cycling or by car. Sailing, cruising and kayaking are available for those who enjoy the water. Various other activities are available throughout the region from rock climbing to hang gliding.
Ambleside has been referred to as 'The Heart of the Lakes' due to its central location, enabling easy access to all areas of the Lake District. It caters for the many thousands of visitors that stop there each year with many, many excellent restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars. There are many shops available in Ambleside, particularly focused on outdoor pursuit equipment and clothing. Many more shops are available in the adjacent town of Windermere.
Once you are in Ambleside you don't need to use your car! There is lots to do and see within walking distance, from the high fells to a boat trip on Windermere, and there are very good bus services.
Local points of interest include Lake Windermere (only a 10 minute walk away), the Beatrix Potter home in Near Sawrey and Wordsworth's Dove Cottage at Grasmere.

Above Stock is a delightful self-catering property in the lovely Lake District town of Ambleside. The house is spacious and comfortable and the views of both the town and the nearby mountains are spectacular. The proprietors are responsive and helpful, and their thoughtfulness is reflected in the manner in which the accommodation is outfitted. "Lovely house in a lovely place"
We are currently enjoying the end of our week in Ambleside and the weather has been warm and Sunny. The property is well situated in the Centre of the Lake district and is centrally located in the heart of Ambleside. It comfortably sleeps 4 and everything we needed is provided except for a clothes dryer. Ambleside can get noisy at the weekend but is quiet during the week at this time of year.
Our daughter who has mobility issues was able to handle the stairs but property could not accommodate people with wheelchairs.

What a discovery Above Stock is! I have been renting properties in the Lake District for so many years and tend to stay in Ambleside as it is a bit more relaxed than the other major towns. I must have walked past this property hundereds of times on my way up and down Peggy Hill to and from the town centre - never realising that it was available to rent until I recently found it online and it is quite simply, superb.
Located right in centre of Ambleside (basically 30 seconds walk from the Salutation Hotel) but still very quiet at all times. The property is extremely roomy throughout with a spacious lounge, very comfortable seating, large dining table, lovely gas fire in addition to modern and effective gas radiators and a fully equipped kitchen with absolutely everything you will ever need. There's a newly-fitted bathroom with the best shower in the world and upstairs there are two very spacious and comfortable rooms (one twin and one double) with bags of wardrobe space.
Compared to other apartments/cottages that I have rented over the years through various rental companies (you will no doubt know who I am referring to...), Above Stock offers unbeatable value for money and I can't wait to return once again.
Take my advice and stay here... It ticks every single box...

We enjoyed an excellent stay at 'Above Stock' in March 2011. Despite the weather being damp and windy, we made the best of our holiday break in Ambleside, and the position of the flat, close to the heart of the village, certainly helped. We found 'Above Stock' to be well equipped and spacious for our requirements, with the friendly owners on hand to deal with any problems which might have arisen (there were no problems.....). In an area of great natural beauty, there is always a premium to be paid for accommodation, but we found the flat to be well priced and very good value. We will return.

"Above Stock is so good, it should be a secret."
We have stayed at Above Stock twice. Location, in the centre of town, great local walks. Car parking is just a stroll away, permit provided. Jennifer and Jonathan the owners have created a two bedroom apartment which exceeds all expectations. Quite literally a home from home. Even the frying pan is good quality. If you want location, comfort and space, peacefulness and a base to explore the Lake District, then we would recommend Above Stock.

"Perfect Lakes location"
Above Stock is convenient, clean and comfortable. This was our third stay and we will be seeking to book again. The flat is very nicely furnished and very well situtaed in the centre of the lovely Lakeland town of Ambleside. The new bathroom is beautifully finished, the bedrooms are warm and spacious and the kitchen has all you require if you want to make your stay completely self catering.

"Excellent apartment, excellent value, will rent again."
We had a very enjoyable week at 'Above Stock'. There was lots of room and every appliance you could wish for. The apartment was well furnished, comfortable and excellent value for money. It was located in the centre of Ambleside so very convenient and with the car park close by we did not need a parking area. We have visited Ambleside several times and this was certainly one of the best rental properties we have stayed in. We will definitely go again.

"Home from Home"
Excellent location.....Owners leave a parking permit for clients, which is really good...the apartment has home comforts to come back to after a long day up the fells......and now a superb new bathroom......to come back to for that long awaited soak....:>)
All one needs catered for.....and close to shops, Cafe's and restaurants if you dont want to cook.......
We have had several holidays at Above Stock and will continue to do so,
