The Lake District
The Lake District - from dramatic fells to sleepy shores, this is nature at its most inventive. With England's five tallest mountains and deepest lake, two national parks, three areas of outstanding natural beauty and a wealth of flora and fauna, Cumbria's rich natural environment is simply unique. The landscape is a real wonder of nature. Impressive peaks rise grandly, reflected in still waters. At their feet, intriguing valleys lie waiting to be explored.
There is also a social landscape to explore that has been formed over thousands of years and continues to be shaped by modern culture. From poignant ruins and drover trails to local legends and literary works, the region's history and heritage has played a defining role in the county's identity. But in recent years, another dimension has been added to Cumbria's unique personality in the form of contemporary theatre and dance, street art and state of the art galleries .
Ambleside, at the head of Windermere and the foot of the Kirkstone Pass, is in the very heart of the Lake District with easy access to Grasmere, Keswick, Windermere and the Langdales.
There are numerous activities close by including:-
-Grizdale Forest – walks, mountain biking and Go Ape
-Langdale Valley - great for walking
-Windermere, Coniston & Ullswater – kayaking, sailing and boat trips
-Hill Top – the home of Beatrix Potter
-The Aquarium and Steam Railway at Lakeside
-Brockholes National Park Centre
-Huge range of shops and restaurants, plus 3 cinemas in Ambleside.

The cottage was exactly as described and was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Although only about a mile from Ambleside, we felt as though we were in the middle of nowhere. The scenery was spectacular.

"Outstanding accommodation, in a beautiful setting"
This is the second time we have stayed at Middle Grove, and won't be the last. The standard of the accommodation is extremely high, and we feel that it's very well maintained. The brand new bathroom was a particular highlight of this visit. We're quite fussy when it comes to cleanliness, and we can't fault Middle Grove in this respect. In fact, that is one of the reasons we decided to return this year. The setting of the cottages is absolutely idyllic, yet still within easy reach of Ambleside. It's about 1.5 miles, so easily doable on foot, if you fancy the walk. In summary, we'd highly recommend a stay at Grove Cottages - once you've stayed here, nowhere else will match up!

"Brilliant location, perfect surroundings"
We stayed here over a week in March. It was just perfect! The cottage was nice and clean, the views you wake up to are pretty amazing. The location was ideal as well as it is away from ambleside but also a short walk away. The only thing that people should be aware of is that the hill from ambleside back to the cottages are quiet steep bit well worth it.

"Peaceful and tranquil with beautiful views"
We stayed at Middle Grove which was a very cosy cottage. It had all mod cons and was in fact a real home from home especially with two teenagers. They really appreciated the wi fi and flat screen TV in the evenings after we had our evening meal. It was hard to believe we were only a mile from Ambleside because it was so peaceful and quiet. You can literally walk out from the cottage into the countryside and beyond. The description on the website was very accurate and we were not disappointed in any way.

"Views you will not forget.!"
Tucked away outside Amble side, amazing location. Views from the front and the back are magnificent. Inside the cottage is everything you could need. Very warm cottage, great shower, all equipment is of a high standard. A fantastic base to explore the Lakes.

"Grove Cottages are idyllic and tranquil, giving top class accommodation."
We stayed in Middle Grove cottage, it was top class. Spotlessly clean, every need catered for, nice touches included flowers on the table along with a plate of home made biscuits, dishwasher tablets, laundry liquid, washing up liquid and some basic toiletries. The manager of the cottages Sarah was very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. When booking the cottage Andy one of the owners was really helpful and made the process very easy. The setting for these cottages is idyllic and tranquil, but close enough to Ambleside that we could walk in and sample some of the lovely eating places - our favourite was Zefferellis. We most certainly intend to return for another fabulous break, and have already recommended Grove Cottages to our friends, family and colleagues.

"A wonderfully appointed cottage in a fantastic location"
A wonderfully appointed cottage in a fantastic location - the next time I book accommodation in the Lakes, I will check out Grove Cottages first. I choose Grove Cottages based on their website after having looked at many alternatives. Grove Cottages looked well-appointed and in a fantastic location, both of which were true on arrival with no hidden "surprises" caused by clever camera angles. The location offered something for everyone: a large and safe garden for the children to play; running and walking right from your front door; all the tourist facilities of Ambleside close by; a beautiful view up and down the valley to contemplate over a glass of wine in the evening; but best of all, the piece and quite.

"Great location and a comfortable base for a walking holiday"
A very comfortable, well presented cottage in a lovely quiet location. But be prepared for the rather rough, single track access road.

Real thought has gone into this cottage and there are some great touches. Simple things like dishwasher tablets and big fluffy towels. It was really easy to settle in, with really comfortable beds. It is not a big cottage but perfect for a family of four. The location is superb on the side of the valley with walks from the doorstep. The bathroom only has a shower and a bit more water pressure would have been nice but this is the only minor downside. We walked, did horseriding and climbing in that week and everything was great.
