Little Grove is situated on the upper level of our Lakeland stone barn. A wealth of lovely Cumbrian slate and original timbers keep the country atmosphere in what is the perfect cottage for two. The galleried kitchen is well equipped with an electric fan-assisted oven and hob, microwave and fridge. The round kitchen table and chairs in old pine provide an intimate dining area for two. The lounge area has a comfy sofa and arm chair for relaxing in front of the wood burning stove. A flat-screen TV/DVD player & wireless internet access are on hand for those who wish to keep in touch with the outside world. The double bedroom is furnished with solid pine furniture and leads to a modern & bright ensuite bathroom. From the garden and sun terrace outside the lounge window you can sit in the quietness looking up to Wansfell over the fields, or watch the stars in the clear mountain air. These superb views can also be enjoyed from your armchair in the lounge. Little Grove is an ideal spot to rest your weary legs after a hard days walking on the fells as well as a bolt-hole to curl up with a book on those less-than-perfect Lakeland weather days.

The Lake District
The Lake District - from dramatic fells to sleepy shores, this is nature at its most inventive. With England's five tallest mountains and deepest lake, two national parks, three areas of outstanding natural beauty and a wealth of flora and fauna, Cumbria's rich natural environment is simply unique. The landscape is a real wonder of nature. Impressive peaks rise grandly, reflected in still waters. At their feet, intriguing valleys lie waiting to be explored.
There is also a social landscape to explore that has been formed over thousands of years and continues to be shaped by modern culture. From poignant ruins and drover trails to local legends and literary works, the region's history and heritage has played a defining role in the county's identity. But in recent years, another dimension has been added to Cumbria's unique personality in the form of contemporary theatre and dance, street art and state of the art galleries .
Ambleside, at the head of Windermere and the foot of the Kirkstone Pass, is in the very heart of the Lake District with easy access to Grasmere, Keswick, Windermere and the Langdales.
There are numerous activities close by including:-
-Grizdale Forest – walks, mountain biking and Go Ape
-Langdale Valley - great for walking
-Windermere, Coniston & Ullswater – kayaking, sailing and boat trips
-Hill Top – the home of Beatrix Potter
-The Aquarium and Steam Railway at Lakeside
-Brockholes National Park Centre
-Huge range of shops and restaurants, plus 3 cinemas in Ambleside.

We really enjoyed our stay at Little Grove - had an excellent week in August. The cottages are nicely located about a 20 to 30 minute walk from Ambleside in some lovely countryside. Everything was clean, cosy and nicely decorated. There is a reception area with lots of information on various walks and activities which we found helpful. Will be recommending to friends and family as a great place to stay.

"Exactly what we needed"
This is our second stay at this cottage which says a lot in its self, both our stays have started with warm welcomes and a clean cottage with all that we required for a weeks stay. The location is great, being at the end of lane so traffic noise is not an issue ,but close enough to Ambleside and all its shops and restaurant's that you are not feeling totally isolated.

"Very cosy and welcoming"
I have stayed at Grove Farm before, it was a long time ago when peter and Zorika Thompson owned the properties, in those days it was a working farm and my children up on holidays there helping out on the farm, we went for seven years in a row they were great holidays with great memories. Little Grove was the only one I hadn't staying in having family it was not big enough so I thought I would book a week with my new partner and wasn't disappointed the only thing missing was the farmer and his wife. Little Grove was tastefully decorated keeping all the original charms that had won me over on previous holidays spent there. The only thing I would say was that the other holidaymakers kept themselves to themselves which is of course a choice but I used to enjoy seating and chatting in the evening and often having a shared BBQ. Al in all a lovely time was had and I would make a return trip perhaps with family again.

"very welcoming cottage with excellent views"
A clean, tidy, well equipped and very comfortable at the very end of Stockghyll Road about a pleasant 15-20 minutes walk out of Ambleside centre with wonderful views over the valley to the Struggle and Red Screes. It was ideally placed for easy access to many parts of the Lakes with several walks accessible from the cottage, and plenty of outdoor seating. The site manager, Sarah, was on site quite often and very approachable and helpful. A little idiosyncratic, the kettle "sang" when the water reached a certain temperature and the fridge "chuntered" a bit but otherwise it was very peaceful. I would most certainly hope to visit again because it is so well placed for so many activities and places to visit.

"An absolute gem!"
My boyfriend and I stayed at Little Grove for 4 nights during October half term. What an amazing little cottage and a great find! It's located a 5 minute drive up a country lane from the centre of Ambleside, basically at the end of the track, as far as you can go. Perfect location, so quiet and peaceful and at night......pitch black! No light pollution so great for seeing the stars and getting a good nights sleep. The cottage had everything we needed, we chose to cook 3 out of the 4 nights and easily managed to make a full Sunday roast with the facilities and utensils provided. The little touches were much appreciated too, the milk in the fridge, the fresh flowers on the table and the free and readily available supply of firewood for the log burner. The use of a washing machine and dryer was also great after wet, muddy walks. The only negatives we could think of are the water pressure for the shower is a little poor, we do like a good powerful shower! And the kettle was very noisy.....no sneaking out to make an early morning brew whilst the other is still asleep with that noise! Overall we loved it at Little Grove and we will definitely be going back! :)

"Little Grove was a lovely cottage and would love to go back."
We have just got back from a weeks stay at Little Grove cottage with our three month old daughter and can't fault it what so ever, we had a fantastic time. The location is a bit further out of Ambleside than we expected, it was a five minute drive up a steep hill and then along a single track lane over a few cattle grids, so it isn't really walkable after a evening meal or anything, but the location actually worked out better for us with our three month old baby, the cottage is set into the hillside with fantastic views and a lovely secluded garden that trapped the evening sun. Little Grove is cosy but is the perfect size for a couple and even with our little baby there was just enough room. It has been restored beautifully and was very well equipped, washing liquid, etc were all provided. Little Grove was great value for money compared to other cottages we looked at. We would definately return to Little Grove again.

Beautiful setting, lovely cottages and the perfect place to get away from it all. We've been three years running now and can't imagine a time when we won't try and stay here every year. We find the cottage is located the ideal distance away from Ambleside - a few minutes drive up the valley but it feels like you're miles away from anywhere with views stretching right down the valley towards Windermere and beyond. Ambleside is15 mins walk downhill into the town and, depending on your pace, 20-30 mins walk back uphill (although if we fancy a taxi after an evening out we've never struggled to get one). The cottages are good value and really cosy and comfortable. Highly recommended.

"The ideal cottage for two. So comfortable and set in a stunning location close to well-known walks."
Returned for a second year and found it as good as the first time. After long walks it is good to soak in a deep bath and then sit in front of the log burner. The cottage had everything we required to enjoy our holiday. I would have no hesitation about returning again

"I wouldn't book anywhere else..."
This was our second stay at Grove Cottages (the first was in Grove Corner for our honeymoon, the second was in Little Grove for our wedding anniversary) and will be booking again! Perfectly peaceful, but just a short walk down hill to Ambleside.
